His best abilities have not been mentioned. Carrick passing in top games was nothing out of the ordinary. Im a Carrick fan and appreciate his efforts for the club, but no way for was he a super passer either

Jose Mourinho says that Manchester United will not have a vice-captain next season. Mourinho announced that Michael Carrick will be Wayne Rooney’s replacement as club captain, following Rooney’s departure for Everton. With Carrick unlikely to start every game, that led to speculation about who Mourinho would name as his deputy. The answer is that nobody will be. “We don’t have a vice-captain, a captain is enough,” Mourinho said. “Michael is obviously the captain and when Michael is not on the pitch, somebody will take the armband but Michael is still the captain. “I don’t like a lot the criteria of the captain to be a player with more time at the club because sometimes you have somebody with the armband that doesn’t have the qualities to be the captain and is just the captain because he arrived before other players. “We are going to try, we are going to feel, we are going to make decisions, but in people like (Antonio) Valencia, (Ander) Herrera, Paul (Pogba), Ashley Young, (Chris) Smalling, we have people that step by step we have to prepare. “Michael will be the captain for one year, maybe two if he decides to do that and his body resists the demands of the Premier League and Champions League. “But for this season… only one captain.”
