wonderfullife wrote: » Yeah but you get the real sense with Conor that he wants to be remembered as the guy who fought in many weight classes and took on all-comers very much like BJ Penn. It's very obvious he has his sights on the 170lb title, whatever about middleweight, but if he wins the welterweight title he sure as hell isn't defending it. For Conor it's all about escalating challenges. Mendes ---> Aldo ---> RDA --> Lawler. That was the direction they were going until RDA pulled out. So now it's more like Aldo --> Diaz --> Alvarez --> Mayweather --> Woodley? I still have a hard time believing he's giving Ferguson or Khabib a shot and what's the next escalation otherwise? Welterweight title. A lot depends on Maia.

Subcomandante Marcos wrote: » 4 titles, 0 defences. He's picking the low risk approach. If he loses to Floyd, so what, he was meant to. If he loses to Woodley (or Maia, or Wonderboy, or Lawlor or Nick Diaz), so what, they're a "200lbs monsters" and he's a light weight. It's a no lose proposition, he jumps the queue and gets a crack with zero downside. Fight Khabib or Tony or whoever is #1 contender at LW and lose and the entire persona is gone, he'll have lost twice in a year and a bit against LW fighters. There's a much bigger risk to his brand and his legacy in actually defending a title than challenging up a division or doing a money grab exhibition boxing match.
Subcomandante Marcos wrote: » If Conor actually decides to do that champions do and defend a title and then beat the likes of Khabib, Tony, Barboza, Gaethje and a few others then he'll be in the conversation for greatest FW ever, for now he's just another guy who beat Eddie Alvarez alongside Chandler, Aoki and Cowboy.

wonderfullife wrote: » BJ Penn and Kenny Florian are very similar to Conor in frame and they both fought at middleweight and BJ fought at heavyweight if you're classing that Machida open-weight fight for what it is and he was very competitive. Brian Ebersole fought at 155lbs, 170lbs, 185lbs, 205lbs and Heavyweight. Kenny Florian fought at 145lb, 155lb, 170lb and 185lb. Rumble Johnson has fought at 170lb, 185lb, 205lb and heavyweight. Ivan Menjivar fought at 135lb, 145lb, 155lb and fought GSP at 170lbs. . Whether he can win or not, Conor can absolutely fight at 170lbs and 185lbs, for sure. As for his chances of winning against the current champions, I'd say he'd be favourite against Woodley and a slight underdog against Bisping.

Nobody is saying "you can't beat Ferguson" but people would be telling him "you can't beat Maia", "you can't beat Whittaker" etc. I never said he'd win, just that I think he'll try - starting with welterweight.
Mellor wrote: » That suggests why he might chase the WW title. If he defends 3 or 4 times at LW. Gets a bit bigger. I could well see him taking a shot at 170. That's not a completely ridiculous suggestion. But as soon as you make it 170 & 185, it becomes ridiculous imo. There should be no mention on 185 until he has won at 170. And realistically, going down the CSAC route and splitting WW into 165 and 175 would be much more suitable.

What the fcuk is Anderson Silva talking about? He keeps mentioning my name over and over again. Look, I’ll fight any one of them. Make sure the numbers are right, make sure the situation is right.
