Just watched it back again, well bits and pieces here and there anyway, Lee Keegan unlucky to get a black card as he had been fouled himself seconds earlier, at least he should be well rested for next Sunday.

TBF simple consistency really,they announced their team the Sunday previous to the Connacht final.

Can't see any element of reverse psychology involved,Kevin McStay could hardly change the team after their performance the last day out.

Does training this week not count ?
Lads close to the team pushing for a place ?

Of course it does but unless the players in situ are doing something awfully wrong one rarely changes a winning team,if there's an injury quel est la probleme?Simply make the change,it's really a storm in a teacup.

How many team permutations has Stephen Rochford made leading up to games without anybody batting an eyelid?We've had many matchday changes.McStay is simply emphatically expressing a vote of confidence in the men who went into battle the last day and is consistent in the timing of that expression.

So just wait till after training Friday night to make sure there are no injuries and then name the unchanged team ?

It's the same as naming a dummy team due to all the possibilities between now and Sunday

Anyway it's makes no odds I just think it's absolutely daft

Mind games are an essential part of sport,I still think it's much ado about nothing.Is there any harm in the psychology of concentrating on your own team and letting your opponents worry about you?It expresses a certain confidence in your team naming them this early.Such is McStay's prerogative.As you correctly state named teams mean nothing anyway.

Anyway we're up momentarily on the Sunday Game!

The problem is who do you replace him with. It's so late in the season to go messing around with such a vital position. We just don't have many options here unless you drop Barrett into the position but I do agree with you that a change needs to happen

Anybody at this stage, he was no better against Sligo than against Cork. He could't field, couldn't out run his forward, and more often than not pushed the forward in the back giving away easy frees.

The Cork forward yesterday who is 36, ran past cafferkey got the ball and then went right around him and popped it over the bar, he may as well not of been there.

I would disagree and say its not too late to change, whoever replaces him can't do any worse. You can be sure that high ball will be pumped in there all day long for Donaghy if we manage to get past Roscommon.

Would agree something needs to change, but I thought Coen, after a good showing against Clare, was poor when brought on against Cork. Gave the ball away an awful lot.

Barrett has not got the requisite height to command the position in my opinion.Coen for me although what about Caolan Crowe?

I might be reading things all wrong but for me the body language between Rochford and Cafferkey was totally off when he was finally called ashore.The manager appeared none too pleased,anybody else notice this or am I always reading too much into same.:)

If he was none too pleased why didn't he take him off much sooner?!

Yep, he had a mare on Saturday. But he is a young big lad who should be able to jump higher than Caff.

At this stage Vaughan or Coen. Its harsh but he is a liablity. His man kicked 6 points off him in the 1st half and between the 2 lads he marked, they took 11 points off him. Now that has to set alarm bells ringing. His pace is gone and his confidence has to be on the ground. The Roscommon forwards will destroy him next Sunday. Hopefully he will prove me wrong and he has been a massive servant, but his day is done.

Yesterday was a repeat of many of our games in the last 7 months. Great spurts, some great positives, some shocking defending.
If we lost it was a nail in the coffin for a few stalwarts and management. The decisions off the bench have me baffled.
Respect Dillion and all he has done, but for the 2nd time in a row now he has offered us nothing in his appearances, almost cost us. Taking off A Moran, Barret, O'Shea so close together was not great.

Lee really needs to cop the fk on. He is long enough on the road to know better than kick out like that. All players get riled, they need to deal with it. Its another disciplinary issue.

Pro - The character, no one can ever question that. we were 7 up, looked like we blew it, went 3 down thought they heads would drop, but these guys have incredible resilience.
8 forwards scored from play, for a team with no forwards the return of 81% is a great return.
AOS - Again was a mountain. Again got ZERO protection from officials. Twice I saw him taking punches, with the linesman watching.
COC - Took some lovely scores.
Loftus - Really top notch scores.
Durcan - Was A1 when he came on, I'd teach lee a lesson and put his ass on the bench for this lad.
Doherty - Emptied it, gave 100%. Always does, never gets the limelight.

Rossies will hurt us, they have the tail up and rightly so. Experience and cool heads needed next Sunday. Could see a draw on this one. But I expect an open game. Need big big games at the back and from AOS and COC.
Would want a top strong ref on this one as its going to be hell for leather.

Mayo's meeting Kerry in the next round always required Donegal to win anyway and that as it turns out never happened, but after the effort put in yesterday, on a warm evening, facing the weaker of the QF opponents may be the best thing.

In a game that Mayo were expected to win comfortably there was some good individual displays from the likes of C O Connor,A Moran and A O Shea but midfield and defensively Mayo were not brilliant on Saturday.

You are using the Munster final as example there but Kerry won that match by 11 after 70 mins and rarely got out of 2nd gear doing so, yes Kerry could have conceded a goal or two however don't think Kerry would have allowed themselves to get into a dog fight against a side that was on life support.

Both Mayo and Kerry scored points for fun from play against Cork but i think that says more about Corks defending, they get numbers back but rarely lay a glove on the shooters.

Its not just the goal chances Mayo gave up yesterday either, Cork kicked around 16 wides on top of the 20 point they conceded and Mayo playing brilliant do not give up that amount of scoring chances in a game especially against a side like cork who are in a poor place.

Yes of course Donegal lost and ruled out that pairing but i do believe Mayos best chance of beating Kerry this summer was in the Quarter final. I expect Galway to now give a rusty Kerry a good test next Sunday but they are unlikely to beat them because they lack experience and their record in Croke park in the championship since 2001 for a county of their size and pick is terrible.

Thank god I watched the game back and didn't rely on the Sunday game "coverage " and "analysis "

All the pissing and moaning about Sky
They do it right
RTÉ had it all their own way for years so you would assume they would have stepped up tbeir game when challenged
But no they just came out moaning

It's the first game I've watched back on sky as I go to them alll anyway and it's light years ahead
They ANALYZE instead of throwing out the same auld ****e

Although RTÉ changed tack tonight
After moaning about our lack of forwards and marquee forwards
They decided to completely ignore our proficiency and a performance for the ages from Cillian to tear Caff apart

Forgot about Donie Vaughan as an option as full back until Yop kindly reminded me. Played the position previously in the FBD league,not so sure about the league.

He has the physical presence,adequate mobility and would be a definite improvement under the high ball.

yes, he needs to rail it in. If he gets another one, he is out for a game as he will have three AFAIK.
He is some player though. Before the start of the game, keegan and his man were at it. He will not give an inch and this is what makes him a great player.

The main thing is whoever we slot in, we need a sweeper to protect him properly, so that he can build some confidence in the role.

Talk of throwing in an inexperienced senior player into a specialist position he doesn't play at the quarter final stage is nonsense
It will not and should not happen

Again I'd be questioning the protection the sweeper Higgins gave the full back
Higgins doesn't se to want to mark or defend anymore and I think he is becoming a problem

To be fair it was a trip and he can have no complaints about receiving a black card for it. He was being pulled and dragged by his man all the while beforehand but that's no excuse for a player of Lee's quality.
