Tyrone GAA Discussion Thread

Hi All

Just wondering what people think of the obvious changes that are taking place in the Tyrone set up and how it bodes for the future.
Taking into the account the retirement of double All-Ireland winner Kevin 'Hub' Hughes this week to add to Enda MCGinley, Brian Dooher, Philip Jordan, Ciaran Gourley & Brian McGuigan.

Take these out of the fantastic Triple All-Ireland winning squad and you would be forgiven for thinking its the end of the road. However they have still won and competed well in Minor and U-21 All Ireland in the last few years. so do people think that these youngsters coming in and with the likes of Stephen O'Neill, Owen Mulligan, Sean Kavanagh, Conor Gormley, Ricey McMenamim, McMahon brothers that Tyrone can rise once again?

Starting to take shape now so we'll have a fair idea of who we're going to be facing.

If Down lose they can't play Monaghan who should beat Carlow. That means they'll play the winner of the Tipp/Armagh game. That one is hard to call but I'd just about say Tipp given it's in Thurles.

So in all likelyhood the round 4 will be Down Vs Tipp/Armagh and Monaghan Vs Kildare. If Down or Kildare win their games then the quarter will not need a draw.

If Tyrone lose though it's much more open as we've not played anyone in our side of the draw. We really need to win this though because there's only a 1 week turnaround between round 4 and the quarter final where we'd surely be playing against Dublin. You'd want more than a week to prepare for that game!

With the help of God we'll put this to bed without a replay or losing it and we'll have 3 weeks to prepare for the next game which IMO will be Kildare and then another 3 weeks to prepare for Dublin should we manage to win that.

Basically if we keep winning we keep getting 3 weeks between games to prepare. Win 2 games and we have the face off against Dublin to see who will play in the final against surely Kerry at this stage.

It's factually incorrect on two counts so I wouldn't get excited about it. The main point is we've been cack since we last won Sam isn't wrong. 3 semi finals, well beat in one of them, closer in two of them. Beat by Dublin, Kerry and Mayo a few times as well as being put out by some weaker sides.

Comhghairdeas. Don't think anyone could argue the best team didn't win Ulster this year.

Don't think there is enough there to win an All Ireland but you've got Mickey Harte which makes up for it. Whoever you play in the next few games ought to be very wary and will need to be at the races or they'll be in for a sticky afternoon.

You'd never know, a much tighter performance from Dublin would be needed than we saw yesterday. There isn't much in it and imo it really depends on how well Dublin improve and fix the issues we saw yesterday, had Dublin met Tyrone yesterday it would have been very close either way.

I think of the teams remaining Tyrone have the strongest core and are very fit too. Easily the best in ulster this year but I think Ulster football is at a lower standard compared to say 3 or 4 years ago when you'd worry about the top 3 from Ulster.

3-60 from 3 games in Ulster is unreal scoring. Average 23 points per game. We got 21.25 over 4 games last year but that was badly skewed by the 5-18 in the Cavan replay.

Maybe it's a bit lower but only in comparison to itself, not the rest of the country I think. Tyrone have probably taken Donegal's place as the team that could beat one of the top 2 on their day. Back 3/4 years ago it was the same with only one team really having a chance to compete in September. Tyrone weren't at that level and neither were Monaghan.

5 teams from 12 left in the championship.

Ha ha,ah I like you guys a lot but I don't want you winning Sam every year.I wasn't particularly shouting for Kildare,don't know where you got that impression.I'd be inclined to shout for the underdog or at least have a wish for an unexpected competitive game.

Sad face after yesterday,only saw the second half yesterday but boy it was a very impressive performance.O Callaghan is some player and there seems to be a never ending conveyor belt of talent!

Great goal, such a cheeky finish!! We seem to have a wealth of forwards who can look amazing on their day. I guess it's just a case of sticking with one of them now for the year. Bradley doesn't look to be the nest finisher of the bunch but I guess he's getting picked to start for his other attributes. Hopefully in the next couple of games if we can get through them bringing the likes of O'Neill and Brennan off the bench will be able to swing a tight game for us. We've only really won one close game against a decent side in the championship since 2013, the Ulster final last year. These lads need to be coming in and getting a couple of points each when the game is in the melting pot against a big side. Even last year it was two of the starters that won it for us, not the subs.

So Morgan has said what he said to him and that the umpire heard it and spoke to the ref at half time then decided it didn't warrant action. Fair play to him to replying to a few of the mouths on twitter, one big mouth from Meath in particular.

Very pleased with how the championship has progressed thus far. A bit of the old swagger is back in the team.

The saying of the rosary before games seems to be bonding the players together, although naturally enough the Dublin media are scoffing at the practice. If they sacrificed a live animal before each game they'd not bat an eyelid, but saying prayers makes them uncomfortable.

It made me uncomfortable too. But I'm not in the panel and to be fair to the lads on OTB they weren't being hyper-critical of the practice or of faith itse;f. It was certainly a case of each to their own.

I adore Mickey Harte and the legacy he will leave the game; essentially revolutionising the sport and making it a so much more entertaining and progressive as well as giving us my favourite team (and player in Stevie O'Neill) of all time (2005-2008). But it doesn't mean I can't be uncomfortable with aspects of his devout faith or his pronouncements on homosexuality/marriage equality.

You can be critical of the acts and still reserve time for the person.
