There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

I've been to Spitjack twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The food is pretty tasty but nothing spectacular. The price you pay is probably in proportion to the quality of the ingredients used to be fair, however some people will find the portion size on the smaller side of the scale. I got the porchetta the last time and while you get three slices they are all exceptionally thin. I mean, it's quite amazing how neatly they are sliced given how thin they are. Overall it's a nice presentation and the surroundings are nice.

Umi is still my favourite in the city, I really hope it lasts. Also, I must be one of the few people In Cork who has gone to Rachel's and enjoyed it :eek:

The customer is not always right. More often than not the customer is wrong and is a d*ckhead to boot.
I've been in an authority position in a customer service role myself and would always right a situation that was wrong, if we had made the mistake. But I would never bend over backwards and be nice to someone being that rude to me when the mistake wasn't ours in the first place.

And FYI, that bacon doesn't look deep fried to me.

Honestly - where does the conversation go from there from his perspective? I'd imagine the final straw was being told his new venture wasn't up to standard and I normally go to the Liberty Grill.

I agree with this. Your approach to the manager sounds very hostile and aggressive and I'm not surprised you got no satisfaction with the way you reacted.

I reckon if I was running a restaurant and a customer kept insisting that food was deep fried when it wasn't, I would probably lose the rag too.

I don't believe that the owner would come to your table and lie to your face about it being deep fried. Who would deep fry bacon, anyway?

Now, I don't doubt that the breakfast was poor but I there are only so many ways he could tell you that it wasn't deep fried before losing his temper.

I also suspect that you are exaggerating when you say that the coffee was served in an espresso cup. Irish people tend to love huge mugs of scalding hot coffee. A standard coffee cup is quite small. I like a small, single shot americano but it's getting harder and harder to find.

And also not a dig from me, but for a long post, would it be worth putting it through a spell check ? I'll be honest, it was a bit of a hard read. I only passed Spitjack in the car a half hour ago, and it looked nice with the open windows. Pity, this is yet another poor review. I hope he gets it together quick.

Ok just went for breakfast there and everything is dead fired when said it was grilled !!!. The grease that was dripping of everything was crazy.

Got a coffee was handed a exp cup and was told that's a large and I was like the people over there got cups twice the size is it who you know I said to the girl and she told me you have to request a larger cup ......

The bread that came with the breakfast was brunned as well !!!!. I make better toast myself when I am 1/2 a sleep.

The owner came over and told me that Notting is deep fired and its grilled i am like no explan the gresse on eveything ?. He still said it's not deep fired and I went I normally go to the library grill for breckfest and tried this place and your not up to the standards at all fighting with me back over food that is clearly dead fired.

Told us to leave and never come back and go to the liberty grill if there great .....

Bewley's supply a huge range of different coffees, some of which are very good.
If made with care on a decent machine, Bewley's isn't, necessarily, bad coffee. It just often is.
