Conor McGregor - Do You Love Him or Hate Him?

In another thread about Irish begrudgery, someone mentioned that Bono is the only Irish man who gets hate and venom thrown his way. I reckoned that Mr McGregor is a man who could rival him quite easily. Conor has plenty of fans but I think he also has plenty of detractors. He's a very polarising figure in this country. My question is, do you love him or hate him? Or are you somewhere in between? Is he a classless brute or is he a savvy and talented businessman?

It's that absurd and unlikely but he's made it happen. McGregor is probably gonna land the biggest payday of his life now and will be able to sort his young family out forever on the back of this. Not bad for some bloke from Crumlin who was signing on a few years ago.

He has made people excited. Plenty of people do that for the World Cup etc. Big sporting events get people's attention, what they choose to do with their own money is their business.

Exactly!! You just have to stand back and applaud the man, he has managed to whip up such a frenzy in such a small space of time, it's really quite genius. I think it shows phenomenal savvy and strength of character.

He's not a boxer, that's how mental the whole thing is. He's an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter who competes in the UFC in a completely different sport. For the last few years he's called out Floyd Mayweather, one of the best boxers ever who retired undefeated, and Floyd eventually said he'd come out of retirement to face him. Love him or hate him, he is a fellow Irishman on the world stage, 4 years from being on the dole to double UFC Champ and taking on one of the most successful boxers of all time.

He is very confident and clever and I for one support him win lose or draw.

If it's not soccer or rugby or horse racing generally a lot of people out there don't want to know and it has taken a relatively small number of fans, given the population size, to propel him into the stature he has now. And FAIR PLAY TO HIM! What we see at press conferences is a front, a character and you can see a totally different man in EVERY post fight interview.

The work and effort he puts in has paid off and I do not know why anybody would begrudge one of our own? That I feel is a very Irish trait

He's also very conscious that this is not a long lived career, that he only has a few years to do this, so he's doing everything he can to do it right, once. He's riding the momentum of the propulsion, but he'll know when to call it a day.

I don't like MMA...it's a makey-uppy sport...took a little from all combat sports...and made a balls of it... McGregor is the public face of this sport and I'm not a fan of his persona either...but the one thing I can't deny is that in the next month he's going to be involved in the richest boxing match ever....and he's not even had a pro fight....that's some self promotion and has to be admired big time

Respect his ascension in his sport, and what he has achieved.

But let's face it. There is definitely a scumbag element to the majority of his "die-hard" fans. The sort of lads you'd actively avoid in social settings.

That suit he wore the other day wasn't "hilarious". It actually made Mayweather look classy.

While his whole bravado may be an act, his disciples seem to take everything he does as gospel and they are generally hard to stomach when they ****e on about him (around for a wet week in a sport notorious for it's turnover of stars, and yet some people have the gall to rate him as one of our greatest ever sports stars).

I think he's loud and did his best to draw attention to himself because if he didn't, he wouldn't be in the position he is in the UFC and certainly wouldn't be making a bajillion squid for fluting about with Mayweather.

I do believe he works hard and I respect that and I respect his ability to do what he does.

He was funny and witty for a long time and it still appears from time to time but it's becoming increasingly drowned out by noise for the sake of noise.

I'd like to see him beat Mayweather, the woman beater.

Think if I commented on women's "tight little asses" or spoke about women "ridin' my dick and suckin' my toes" my wife would question my dedication.

Can't stand him.

No doubt he is successful financially but you cannot buy class and he proves that 100 per cent. I don't like the way he speaks or behaves, showmanship or not...he just comes across as a scumbag with money. I don't like the way he dresses, or his man bun or the people who try to copy his dress sense.I don't think he is a good role model for kids and I don't buy into this thing that people should support him because he is irish. He doesn't represent me.

I really despise the fan boys who will call this begrudgery..as it's not.
