The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

I completely agree but it is a fine line between scanty and big, ignorant portions.
I hate what I consider to be too large portions but I equally hate feeling short changed and the problem is that it's subjective.

Ah, its the business there in. It's not hard to hit the Goldilocks amount. Not out a lot, but if so, in a group of 5/6. We usually all agree on the 'loading' applied by the restaurant.
Stingy is worse than over load.

Na, Spitjack is genuinely scanty (especially for the price) . 3 thin slices of pork belly, with a dribble of sauce, in a gigantic plate, with a small portion of potatoes on the side. They need to provide a little bit extra of everything and maybe add a simple portion of greens to every plate and theyll be sorted because the food was actually good, and the decor inside in one of the most impressive in the city.

It doesn't have to be massive portions (which can often mean less quality anyway), but you don't put out servings that assumes everyone has the appetite of a rabbit, because you spent so much money on the décor & lease.

At least if it's too large, you have the choice not to eat all of it !

Back in the 90s, I remember being brought to Cliffords on the Mardyke, as a reward for our project team. Half the group ended up going up to Lennoxs afterwards.

For me, restaurants like the Strasbourg Goose in town have it right.

I've only been to Spitjacks once, but I needed an assist to finish my meal! And I was hungry going in. I wouldn't have singled them out for small portions, but I'll have to take note the next time.

Hey guys, kind of short notice but looking for a bit of advice.
I have two Spanish friends visiting today before they head home tomorrow.
They're up to their eyes balls in burger joints and bacon and cabbage and stew so I'm wondering does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere that does Spanish or Mediterranean cuisine or tapas in the wider cork area doesn't specifically have to be the city centre.
Also gonna have two small people with us so Cask won't suit.

Feed your Senses on Washington St is a Spanish restaurant, and I think they do a paella for groups as well as tapas style dishes.

Salt on Victoria Road has nice tapas, I have found the specials are usually good there. It is a little pricey for what you get, but the decor and atmosphere is nice in my opinion.

The New Mexican and Tequila Bar place has opened down the boardwalk. Looking forward to hearing what it's like. Might try get in there next week.

The pigs back in Douglas has a nice selection, has lots of parking and should cater to the smallies too I think.

I really wish they'd post the menu on the Facebook page. Really hope the food is good.

Brekkie menu looks real good! Pity there using bewelys coffee. Deffo give it a try for the churros and the guacamole bagel! They sound awesome!

Bewley's supply a huge range of different coffees, some of which are very good.
If made with care on a decent machine, Bewley's isn't, necessarily, bad coffee. It just often is.

Finally got to Boojum the other day. Talk about fuss over nothing. Very much falls into the "grand" category. Certainly not worth the hype.

Ok just went for breakfast there and everything is dead fired when said it was grilled !!!. The grease that was dripping of everything was crazy.

Got a coffee was handed a exp cup and was told that's a large and I was like the people over there got cups twice the size is it who you know I said to the girl and she told me you have to request a larger cup ......

The bread that came with the breakfast was brunned as well !!!!. I make better toast myself when I am 1/2 a sleep.

The owner came over and told me that Notting is deep fired and its grilled i am like no explan the gresse on eveything ?. He still said it's not deep fired and I went I normally go to the library grill for breckfest and tried this place and your not up to the standards at all fighting with me back over food that is clearly dead fired.

Told us to leave and never come back and go to the liberty grill if there great .....
