Garda Trainee November 2017 intake

Might as well fire this one up, I think it's safe to say most of the August invites have been released to most people. Congrats if you got one! (Don't take my word for it, there does be ad-hoc invites sent out!).

So the journey continues on for the others like myself.

Hopefully it's November for us. I will pop the FAQ in this post once I get the chance.

So let's continue as the August one might get taken over by the guys with intake related questions!

I knew they would look into it all the same, but seen as I am going in the general stream I didn't think it would be a critical part of the meeting or application, considering guys I know who are joining and wouldn't join the Reserves let alone do any hours unpaid.

It was finished with him saying, 'that's not to say you might not still get accepted but this doesn't look good at all'.

Holy sh*t that's some grilling compared to my super meeting which was extremely informal for the most part.

I met a guy at my open day (I think it was march or april), last I heard from him a week ago when i wanted to know where he's at, he wrote back he got an email saying his application is generally unsuitable. I say like all other aspects of this application, it varies from person to person.

is the meeting with the super intense or whats is like? I was told by other members of the force that the super would be 'the least of my problems' but i'm worried about meeting him more than anything else!

Correct, I guess I just wanted to see what people thought, also if anyone is in Reserves and like me not active your better off leaving, if you want to go full time and haven't got the time for it.

I had friend down the week before and he had no issues!

That's not to say the meeting was bad, like I should have been on the ball with his questions a bit more. Just it's usually a fairly easy going meeting, 10 mins, just there is a possibility it might not be! So do a bit of preparation on what you think you might be asked.

my super meeting was very informal. offered me a drink and we just at in the office, made sure i had no previous convictions, asked how i felt the competition was going and said good luck and well done.

My daughters was very quick, asked about her reason for joining, sporting background and community work and wished her every success in the selection. It only lasted 10 mins

I emailed HRM a few days ago and got a response almost straight away. Does anyone know if they give the same response for anyone who submits a query to see if their vetting is complete.

My response said it was still outstanding and that once it is back, it will go for a decision and I will be notified of this decision. Does anyone know if they let everyone know when their file is signed off

i wasnt told when mine was completed had to call them and ask. would be nice if they told you when it was signed off.

I received the same mail, a few weeks passed and still no mail from them,I then mailed asking about it and it was done. So I'd say follow up on it.

How long are the induction weeks? As in, are they Mon to Fri or the whole 7 days?

Hi Killer91, Mon - Fri, 9-5 I would imagine, that's what the induction week for the Reserves was.

Thanks, just trying to sort out holidays. Now I know there is also a chance that I won't get called but just trying to plan ahead.

I'd imagine the induction weeks will be the two weeks before the week of the 6th of November?

Told my employer about the Gardaí. Felt I had to and wanted to because all the courses I was being put on which was costing the company a lot of money and they were of no use to me for the future.

Nevertheless, it will make my exit a lot easier now. My current employer is very happy for me so it's satisfying to. Didn't give them a definite answer on starting but they're fully understanding now and aware that's it's only a matter of time now before I leave the company.:)

Have my medical coming up my bmi is 33.7 5ft 8 female atm but includes high percentage of muscle as I play high level of sport. Any one know is the bmi automatic fail or have I a chance?

The below is what is in the candidate handbook. I'm over the 30 myself at the moment but working hard to get it down below the 30. Not sure if this answers your question but I'd be aiming for at least 30 if at all possible.

General requirements are as follows:
 A good standard of general mental and physical health (full disclosure of medical history is necessary and shall be reviewed as part of the medical examination)
 Weight within normal (non-obese) limits (ideal BMI is less than 25). Overweight (BMI >25 and <30) shall be considered with other measures to exclude significant obesity
 Eyesight - good levels of vision (minimum distance vision of 6/18 on both eyes that can be corrected to 6/9 and 6/12 with glasses or contact lenses if necessary)
 Hearing - good level of hearing without a hearing aid
 Applicants are expected to be aerobically fit in order to safely undergo training and to
subsequently carry out the duties assigned to them

Hi I got a phone call from my local station saying they received my files does this mean they are only starting the vetting process as I passed the interview in February I thought it would be well underway by now I've passed all the stages was just wondering had anyone else been in the same boat

Well lads just wondering I've an oom of about 800ish passed my medical and met the local sergeant last week but still have to meet super and do pct. I take it I won't be getting November and am looking at 2018?

Im in the same boat as you, You have a lower OOM than me by 200 odd,

Im looking at the dates there, there are 10 weeks till sept 25th which will be around the notice period say for november intake,

If we get a month notice for the PCT and a month for the intake itself we are looking at between the next 6-8 weeks to get a PCT done and dusted?

I know people have gotten late cancellations etc

Oh don't get me started ha ha. Such a slow and drawn out process!

I started this recruitment campaign with no grey hairs...I have plenty now over it lol. It's just out of our control. I even tried to be pro active as possible by contacting my two local districts because I'm in between two and still waiting to hear back to see if my file landed on a person's desk.

Have to meet with Sergeant/Super and do PCT. I'm still remaining optimistic for a start in November but my optimism is fading for each day passing and not hearing anything

Still remaining hopeful.
