One morning I need to get the cows done early dumbass here let's the wire down directing to parlour and cows head for a gallop to the last fecking field on the pasaage

Yeah, Ger. He had to leave to sow a bit of grass seed in the last place he was at.

You'd get fairly embarrassed grazing rushes when a great field of Barley growing across the river for the want of a few drains.

The field of Barley in the background with the lowest part of the field to be drained where the rushes are nearer to me. The middle 5 acres are dry but uneven and the top of the field is the wettest.

Anyone getting random
Cases of mastitis lately ,4 cows treated in last 3 weeks here for no apparent reason ,parlour checked out and fine ,yards clean spraying after milking ,clearing up quickly but annoying .treating over 4 milking with terrexine first followed by 3 tubes of synolux scc not crazy high went to 180 max ,up to early June average was 72

Yep, got two bad cases about a week ago. One cow lost the quarter and the other one I caught quicker but quarter is still going to be light I'd say. And I went through the whole spring with only one or two mild cases and now cows are spotless I run into trouble. Vet said he has seen where acrs not working correctly sometimes cause outbreaks. Spent the last week pre stripping just in case but nothing more since. Cluster cleanse here too so disappointed it spread to second one. Flies maybe?
Or maybe its the crows, have that problem too!

Heat stress maybe? Cows spent half the day around water today, trough never empty but some lay down near it as well so more chance of dirt in field

Flies I'd doubt it as done with eprinex ,parlour checked out ,I don't pre strip ,just quick blast of hose and cluster on ,i rely on conductivity filter sock (even when a cow gets mastitis no clots or very few)to pick up cases before a scc test comes weather be causing it im wondering hot muggy weather

What is a 'conductivity filter sock? That's a new one on me. Mine done with Eprinex the week before too.

Did you check which type it is? Most likely strep uberus which is environmental. I had a few cases and now I'm coming out of it since I treated effected cows and started pre spaying with the post. I found what also helps is not letting the cows stand in the yard for a long time or passage ways, doing them for flies. Also try and keep any very high scc cows or mastitis ones til the last row so no cross contamination.

Sample taken on latest cow on Thursday ,vets suspects strep uberus as well ,yards are clean ,and cows don't hang around yard any longer than nesecary

I tested 4 high cows 2 weeks ago. All came back with strep uberis.
Mysekf and dad are putting it down to the test sealer we used at drying off. Couldn't get the usual test sealer we used so we had to get a different brand. Made by norbrook.
It was like water going into the cows at drying off and when they calved down there was no sign of any sealer.
We made a complaint about it but got no reply from any one.
The sheet of paper that cane with the milk culturing says it's caused in the dry period and at calving

Huge difference between the maize under plastic, and the few spots where there was no plastic (end of rows etc). Thank phuck I didn't take the risk and not bother with plastic now! Main crop averaging 5f6 now, happy enough for planted the start of May.

Yes. Used to use it on autumn calvers thinking they would be covered for flies. Use white dose now at drying off and spot on too

All Bulls will be taken from cows and heifers in about 2 weeks time. They're all Hereford so culling them isn't an option

I can put in a paddock away from all cows but they'll most likely wreck the fence.
I can house them on slats with a straw lie back.

What do ye do with them?

I had three fr bulls I left in a paddock with cows passing by but had full bars on fence tester, they were ok but one was dominant over the others which may have helped. Feeding them safely outside would be an issue tho if feeding them, along with the fact you wouldn't want any small people going after a football or anything. Last year I had an older AA and a fr so I put them together inside in the smallest pen I had as the aa would have been unmanageable outside not in a group of cows or heifers

Give them back to their owner. Rent beef bulls. Left three bulls together a couple of years ago and they nearly killed one of them. Hate bulls hanging around the place

Are they costly to rent and how long in advance would you need to book them?

Would the guy have many to rent?

If I was to offer mine for sale would there be any market for them at this time

Always get lads looking for bulls at this time of year, normally to clean up or something has happened to their own bull, put them up on donedeal or whatever.

Have a neighbour with a small sucker herd who used to take the beef bull at the end of season and keep until housing.im not sure whether hes going to take a bull this year and i have two now so i have no idea what to do.if i could put the two together same but i dsay theyd fight.thinking of just letting them run with heifers and sell on any late heifer that calves

Are they not together if you're dairying,? You have to have an old bull and a young bull so one is always dominant rather than two the same age. Some people just buy a new bull every year but that brings disadvantages through disease and unproven calving and fertility
