Thought I'd start this thread as haven't found one of the same.

So, 2010.. new decade... new beginnings? With the aim of the League being to get back into Division 1, could Clare also achieve success in Munster this year?

As well as a proposed friendly versus Cork, Ger O'Loughlin has a good load of matches to blood players from U-21's into the senior game. With the opponents in the League not posing a major threat some would argue Clare wont get as much preparation as Div 1 teams, but maybe it will give them an opportunity to focus on their strength and conditioning?

So, Clare face Waterford on Sunday at 2pm in Ballyduff Upper.. I think they should win against this weakened Waterford side, but I think it will be close tbh. But could Waterford topple us in the pre season tournament?

Ok as best as I can put it.

First off well done to Cork. Said it to a couple of them afterwards, they were the better team and fully deserved their win.

I hate saying this but the management team will be very disappointed with their decision making. The puckouts against Nash were nothing short of absolutely lunacy. Ok look, you want to drop the wing forwards back and close of the space, but when Nash hits the free ball to the cornerbacks, the wing forwards instinctively pushed as a result, freeing up space in the Cork forward line. As Im talking as Daly's is saying on TSG, he is unsure about this strategy, but he is being generous imo, it gave Cork an easy out to build an attack and get a constant foot hold. The management must hold accountability here.

Starting Oisin was a mistake. That's on the management again. It was a gamble playing a guy who hasn't played since March but that's how it worked out.

The quality and the strategy of how we want to get the ball into the full forward line needs to be revised also. Against Limerick we got 3 breaks that got goals from hitting then ball direct inside, but most of the time were trying to hit a diagonal ball. That's a good ball to hit so long as you're hitting it in quick, which is not what we are doing. Were always looking for an extra link up pass slowing the ball down meaning that the ball is being sent out almost over the sideline but the time its sent in. Galvin, for the great link man he is, just could not unlock the Cork full backline with passes. This managements philosophy has always to short pass it out of defense and hit is diagonal into the forward line, but they need to decide that maybe we need to quicken out delivery. Did Shanagher or Sod get one decent ball in space today? For what it's worth CMcG was very frustrated walking off at HT.

I dont know how we do for the rest of the year. We have only played 2 games in 13 weeks? Maybe the QF might be beneficial.. I dont know. We have alot to fix and look a good bit off Galway and Cork. McInerney really needs to be in the half back line, maybe we just bite the bullet and leave Dillon at full back. McCarthy is going to start soon, maybe his time has already arrived.

Very deflated, feels like we haven't fired a bullet yet.

If Clare didn't withdraw lads then that backline is badly exposed with nash's puckouts. Let's face it Clare's problems are defensive and the taking of wrong options on occasions up front.

abslouthly 100% about the tactics but lads that was a bad show , i understand that donal and gerry encourage players to play with a bit of freedom , but today was taking the piss , some of the on the ball decision making was shocking , our shooting from out the field was horrendous , any time we played the ball in on top of the cork full back line we looked dangerous ,.......so we decided to ignore them as much as possible
if we have to drop players like john conlon podge and tony kelly well then so be it we need to be brave on the line aswell , people like brian cody wouldnt stand for the type of performance that some of out key men put in today

jason mccarthy ,molone ,david reidy colm galvin were all excellent , we have some really good lads on the bench but i just feel some lads are getting away with murder at the moment

Everyone in the Killinan End was going ape sh*t over it, the Cork lad I went to it with agreed it was ludicrous, what's going on in management's head that makes it seem a sensible approach.

It basically meant you were giving Cork full forward line a 50 50 chance to win possession every time.

It's frustrating. Just once I'd love to see them go 100% man-to-man for 70 minutes. If they get trounced and it's proved not to work then fine, forget it, but it couldn't be much worse than what's going on.

Tough luck on Clare footballers yesterday. Mayo were more streetwise too. Martin McMahon hit with closed fist 3/4 times tried to play on whereas any contact with Colm Boyle he made sure to jump to ground and highlight to match officials. Jamie Malone continuously blocked off ball by Keegan. He be better rolling around the ground like Diarmuid O'Connor. Still been a decent season, survived Division 2 and played 4 championship games. I believed they started training so Id say league survival was priority. League of bench cost them dearly in league and even yesterday. Hopefully Colm Collins stays on and bloods some young players or lads that walked away return. I can understand lads not playing D3 or D4 but should have anyone in county that available to play Division 2 as Clare football in a good place now.

Great atmosphere around Ennis earlier. Footballers tried hard, but Mayo are just that bit better. Roll on tomorrow! Or today actually.

normally that's the way it works ,if it dose your probably looking louth , tipp, cavan and rosscommon at home , better to have them home rather then away especially tipperary expect them to have another big run this summer on the back of todays win

So more than likely our 3 away games will be Down, Cork and Meath as we had them all at home this year?

good effort by the footballers in defeat , mayo completely took over in the championship 1/4 ,the 10 minute spell at the start of the second half and the injury to cathal o'connor the difference , as mayo hit 2-04 without reply

great to see the park full , mayo created a fantastic atmosphere , our lads are still fairly young so this sort of experience , espically mayo's 2nd half intensity will stand to us in years to come

looking back on this year we have to be positive , a number of players were tied up with ballyea at the start of the league , 7 players from last years panel left the panel or retired , most counties would struggle after that

but good home wins against down, and cork along with descent performances against kerry and mayo leave us in good stead , the wins over laois and limerick have shown how far we have came under collins , but we are still 6 to 7 points off the really big teams ,

hopefully we can kick on again next year and push for promotion to division 1 along with blooding some more young players , we have 4 home games next year in the league and should offer us a good spring board for the summer 2018 , here's hoping we can find another gear and progress further

But isn't that the amount of requests that were got from Clare Clubs? Our own club had only requests for 20 tickets from members. Most people bought from Super Valu and Centra.

Hopefully Malone will help out here, with Conlon. Malone in fairness was releasing the pass off to the runners in the league. Podge and Tony are at their most dangerous coming from deep onto these. I'm expecting a marked improvement from them. I'm not hugely worried about Tony tbh, he is a good lad with bags of quality, it will come through more often than not.

Ive probably said it a few times but Im a massive O'Brien fan. I think he is our next importand back after McInerney and our best man maker. Hopefully he is fully fit its obvious he will take Cadogan. He is the right man for that job too.

Im not the biggest Malone fan, but its understandable why he is in. There is more balanced to the team now and we can be more conventional with our puckouts. I think what Malone brings that were a little lacking, apart from phsyicality, is workrate. I think his role is obvious too, he will be there to stop Coleman bombing down the left side and look to pop pass ball off the Podge and Kelly. Kelly should be more involved on Sunday.

I think we can win but a few things.

If its indeed Cleary on Lehane, there has to be proper communication between himself and the players around. Im actaully ok if Lehane does get a few points, but we have to hold our shape and reduce the space at the back. Its more important imo. In the end the best way of beating Cork is by scoring more goals, and the backs can stop them here. I like the matchups were have in our full back line. This leads me to my next point.

Our full forward line, with the right ball, can seriously, seriously hurt this Cork full back line. Ball has to go first time every time into space inside. At times against Limerick we looked for an extra pass too much. For me, a Podges performance the last they showed it. He played far too deep imo, and then just looked to hit it on a couple of yards when he got it. I know he will drop back, but I much prefer he pushes on forward this weekend, and makes runs of Conlon and Malone. Thats why he had such a good league, was that he was playing up further like against Waterford when he got that goal, he didnt do this at all v Lmk. Ellis will hurl well whats in front of him, but he wont be able to handle Podges movement.

I think we will win, so long as the forwards and midfield work hard and dont let quality ball into their backline. I think Clare's midfield and full forward line mismatchs Corks. But im a bit worried as we havent played at a high level compared to Cork. Also we maybe take it for granted but Cork are much more assured at goalie and freetaking. I hope it doesnt come down to this.
