Strange game.

Lost by 11 and we really could and should have scored 3 or 4 goals.

Awful from the beginning, giving Kerry such an easy lead is disgraceful. Our defence actually looked like they didn't know how to defend, with only 1 or 2 actually sticking to their men.

What was the game plan? It looked like we didn't have any.

Peadar really needs to jog on and the ccb need to get the right man in, not Their right man.

Awful really, considering we have a good team, with a sprinkling of good footballers, but we are like a rudderless ship and until that changes we will not see the best that this cork team can produce.

Kerry pulled away and I saw no plan B for Cork.Not even sure they had a Plan A to be honest!

At least you can look at the hurlers to see how quickly a team's fortunes can turn around - in Kerry, we can remember taking a twenty-point hammering in 1990 and winning a Munster title the next year. It'll take time, but with the next three clashes in the Páirc, you should be a lot better next year.

A sad day for Cork football. That was one of the most dis heartening performances I have ever seen.

If we need get a Kerry man in so be it. They are proven winners. This Healy fella would put Leitrim into free for all. How in Gods ****ing name did he get the job? How in the world are Cork people so stupid.

2003 and 2004 were bad years but this is the worst of the lot. 3 awful performances. We created 3 or 4 great chances for goal but now that we lost I'm glad we did not score them as it would only cover the glaring cracks.

In fairness to Peadar Healy, he put in the hard yards over decades, was a selector so knew the senior county set up, and probably knew every footballer in West Cork since they were playing under 10s. Presume he had the support of every club west of Clon. Plus, ironically, when Kerry's strongest club side was looking around this county they went for him, so he has a great cv. Maybe his poor showing there should have sounded more alarm bells, but it's not like he was plucked from obscurity.

Oh I don't disagree. My point was the appointment seemed solid enough, but agree it hasn't worked out. Needs the team to stage a Lazarus like revival to save him now. I always think anyone who says Cork don't have the players just doesn't know west Cork, it's black football, and they should easily draw enough talent from that area and tradition alone to be better than most counties. If they don't, it's not about the absence of players, it's down to the county board and the man on the sideline and their failure to transfer that to the county side.

not to mention pissing away a decade of being on top of Kerry at underage. now that they have won 3 or 4 minors in a row it is going to get a lot harder for Cork in the coming years

It is amazing what a team can produce when they have the right manager as against the wrong one.

There is some potential in this team but it needs to be properly managed, and the current management team isn't up to it. Cork managed to reduce the deficit at one stage to 3 points before half-time despite not playing with any real fluency.
The second half was a write-off as Kerry came out of the traps early and killed any potential Cork momentum, which wasn't helped by the stop/start nature of the game.
Time for a management clear out, and if that means bringing in outsiders, so be it.

He has absolutely trandsformed the minor team in Kerry, an extraordinary turnaround from where they were.

Of course it won't happen but then again the county board don't seem too bothered about days like today, playing second fiddle to Kerry, Dublin, Mayo, Tyrone etc ....

Have a lot of friends in Beara, and some of them part of the Jer family that is so steeped in success with Cork. And know Peadar Healy, Ciaran O'Sullivan (fierce nice fellow) and others. So take no satisfaction in Cork's demise, no Kerry fan does, we'd far prefer Cork to be the second best team in the country...just behind Kerry. No one in Kerry cares that much about Donegal or Mayo...although admittedly we don't like Dublin or Tyrone, but who outside those counties does? Everyone in Kerry has friends and family in Cork, many of my friends work in Cork and love nothing better than striding into work after a narrow win or when we beat a confident Cork side. Insofar as a win can be joyless, today was almost painful, like that "stop stop he's already dead" line from the Simpsons.

Think it would take a long time for Jack to get to grips with Cork football, though I guess he could rely on selectors to haul the best of the county in front of him. It'd be a long haul from his home though. Pat O'Shea would possibly be more realistic, given his Killarney base.

but has it not been like that for 3 years now? you could argue that previous performances were worse.

scraped by Tipp 2 years ago, should have been beaten. eventually beaten by Kildare who then were hammered by 27 points by Kerry.

last year beaten by Tipp.

this year, scraped by Waterford, scraped by Tipp. you could argue, that based off overall performances over the last 3 seasons, that Cork are now the 4th best team in Munster.

Tipp had 7 or 8 key players missing the last day - even 1 or 2 of them would have resulted in a Tipp win. Clare are #2 right now and Tipp 3rd in my opinion.

I can't really see Cork being 4th in Munster. Consistently in division 1, down in division 2 now and had a very poor league but still finished ahead of Clare with Tip in division 3. Next years division 2 will actually be very interesting with all 3 involved.

Cork, Clare and Tip are much closer now than ever before certainly but I'd still have us in second place, by a hairs length, but still there. However, if we had a better setup, the gap would widen instantly. We are capable of serious improvement whereas the others are nearing the top of their game. But at the moment I reckon the 3 of us are mid table division 2 teams.

Cian o Neill was a perfect fit for the Cork job, look at what he is doing with Kildare. He is even living in Cork, but the great Cork County Board would not be brave enough to go outside the country. I feel sorry for Peader Healy he was given a impossible job. Our county Football is in turmoil, we have a good pool of players we just need someone to settle them in at division 2 and work from there. Ronan Mccarthy wrote a very good article in yesterday Examiner about player confidence it not easy to get it right.

Yes you could have had 3 or 4 goals, but you also need to factor in Kerry scored 1, KOH made two point blank saves and Kerry also elected to fist 3 balls over the bar from very close range that could have been put away.

on the balance of play, the scoreline was about right.

Its been a steep downward trajectory alright no question about it, but its really been evident last 12 months.

I mean we were still good enough to play Division 1 couple years back. Now we are mid Division 2 team at best

It certainly was, but even the Kerry goal had a very strong slice of luck about it.
My point was that we were a shambles and yet we could and possibly should have scored 3 or 4 goals. It was as much what could have been and the fact what can be achieved when you run directly at the Kerry defence. Against better teams Kerry noticeably draw players back behind the ball to block the runs, they didn't feel the need today, it's a pity we didn't rattle the net a few times as it would have made things more interesting.

Seeing Ken o hallorlan running out of the goals today with the ball and ran almost 100 meters up the field and lost the ball and hardly made an effort to run back to cover his goals again sums up for me the lack of interest the players have at the moment.

Kerry will learn nothing from today.

Healy didn't last in Dr Crokes for long. So he should be kicked out of the Cork job as well.
