Why is the Guinness so so bad

Hi all,

Just wondering has anybody else noticed that the pint of Guinness is so bad since last year, almost undrinkable at times.

I thought it was my local pub but went around at least 5 different pubs around the area and it's the same. I've been drinking Heineken since last October and I miss the pint. Even went as far as going into 3 different pubs on James' st beside the storehouse and it was worse there.

I've emailed Guinness about it but they don't even reply (just goes to show how they value there customers).

Anyone else finding the same problem.

I know plenty of people that drink guiness and havent had an issue with it. Not all barpersons know how to serve a proper pint in fairness.

Is there anything you can specifically say, or compare it to your "usual" pint to give us an idea?

You can defnitely tell when you get a watered down Guinness.

But I haven't had an issue with my last few (about a month ago!).

I'd say they just aren't taking your complaint seriously as if that many pubs were serving bad pints they would have heard of it by now.

You've probably just ruined your taste buds by drinking that pisswater Heineken for the last six months.

The head is not holding the glass and the head is yellow instead of white plus has bubbles around it when pulled. Also goes very soft after 10 mins and tastes sour most days.

They've changed production process marginally recently. Filtered not fined. Unlikely to cause that.

It's been filtered since the 1980s. The recent change was to stop using isinglass for fining, but it's highly likely it has been replaced with something else.

It may have been but the claim was that the delay in removing it (they missed the first date) was a delay in new filtration kit.

The bubbles around the head could be to do with detergent remenants on glasses. Dunno otherwise

Yeah we thought that but the way the pubs clean the glasses has not changed in God knows how long and the pint was fine up until last October.

Different finings may require different filtration kit.

Have you a link to that.. I'd be interested in reading up on the specifics?

Apart from it tasting like utter stutter. Amazing what marketing can do for a beer, Budweiser still the most popular beer in the USA and that's almost in the same category as Heineken when it comes to tasting like piss.

They don't even compare, Heineken is not even comparable to bud. If I'm ever in a round with someone drinking budweiser I always feel like a right prick walking down to the table with a pint of piss water

I'm not joking here, but were you sick or did anything happen to you around October? I picked up a horrifying tropical virus a couple of years ago that made me allergic to certain foods like blue cheese and mustard for a long time afterwards and a lot of food just tastes different now.

To answer some points raised;

The warm weather would be unlikely to be a factor. Kegs are stored in cellars and increasingly now, in cold rooms. The lines would then be going through the floors which would be a constant enough temperature. Most beer lines these days only hold a small amount of beer anyway and if there is a good flow on the Guinness it'd be very unlikely to go bad.

There is also no way the flavour can be affected by the "barperson's" pour.

Likeliest explanation is that your tastebuds are changing.

Like in the media or a statement from Guinness, not "bloke in the pub" or "taximan" talk.

(and yes I know it is meant to be watered down in the brewery so the pedants can settle down)
