You lads done any shearing yet? Might leave it until the end of this month as its still cold out. Found a hogget on her back though earlier, so I might need to get it done.

i think shearers brought help here once and that was an actual wool handler no idea if they were paid separate. The same shearer brought his chap a few times and he def didn't get anything extra but he's shearing in his own right now

Put it this if I had had more time to think about it I might have challenged him on it but weather was dodgy last while and he came when I asked which means a lot.Would have thrown the young lad a few euro regardless as a gesture but he didn't do much at all.

Do other people here have shearers that bring 'help' with them?.....that you end up paying for.

Most people would give it anyway and if he wanted to be paid for the child he should have included it in his price per sheep. 40 or 50 cents per sheep would cover it but might make him sound dear.
I wonder how much of the €25 went directly to the child too as pocket money as opposed to feeding and clothing the child.

Changed my shearers this year as fella that usually did them wasn't the tidiest and nicked a couple last year, whilst it was only the ewes i didn't mind too much about the track lines. This year as its only hoggets for sale in August i wanted them clipped well and the two boys did a fine job on them.
However two hoggets jumped the hurdles and caught their legs in the gap at the top of the hurdles and one broke her leg and I've splinted her but the other has a fair bit of swelling despite a couple of injections with betamox and metacam. Vet couldn't tell if she'd torn tendons or broke the fibula due to the swelling so i'll have to keep an eye on her.

ye dont ask ye dont get.... i'd say the lad was chancing it.... not everybody gets paid the day the job is done....

not so many lads out doing it this year. some amount of sheep still wooley like.

The child bit is fairly cheeky.

I'm going to hold onto mine for the moment. Not taken by up much space. Wouldn't like it hanging around the sheds at winter though. I'd image it's a magnet for rats nesting.

Is everyone selling there wool or holding it till hopefully price improves surely can't get worse? Sheds are all empty so no big deal till store it for awhile.

Sheared yesterday a good few with maggots no cuts though. Sold wool today didn't pay for the cost of the shearing.
Wasn't able to do much of my Saturday jobs as a result of Fridays work!

Got all clipped and Fluke dosed,was as well they were in last night,was very misty here in early morning,enough to wet wool,blew up into good day by time Shearing team came.....job done till next year:)

Have used washing up liquid and where they are only starting and haven't started to bore in if a lamb was about to go.

Got about a third of mine done yesterday and then the shearer packed it in cause of the rain. Don't know when he'll be back. Forecast is not great.

I had mine in the shed last night, before the rain came, grand and dry...
Rang shearer, he can't make it til Thursday now...

The forecast is for showers every day, between now and then. We'll see how we get on...
