The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 3.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.

Any name-calling, trolling, baiting, or being a general ass-hat will earn you a ban from the thread and possibly the forum.

Any "Do you even train Bro?" or "I'm an mma fan longer than you" type posts are not permitted either. They only make you look like a fool and as a result, everyone hates you. Yes everyone.

Lads consider this the one and only warning - big fight with a lot of hype around it. It brings new fans to the forum as well as the regulars so try and get along. Any trolling or nonsense and people will find themselves on a break from the forum and that applies to everyone.

Conor's training partner is Artem at the moment, he is no way challenging himself or fighting someone unpredictable, very much doubt Artem will emulate floyd in any way, it's all safe, same people, same approach. He won't get a do over like the Nate Diaz fight.

Mayweather too. I am sure he will be waffling and spoofing as to how Conor is a great competitor and that this is a legitimate fight that he needs to treat seriously. All part of the sell...

Whats the point in paying a coach to come in? they've all had a crack the best of the best and couldnt formulate a plan to beat him so why bother,

That's too simplistic a view of things. The reason for someone like Roach not being able to train a fighter to beat Mayweather isn't down to fact he can't come up with a game plan, it's almost certainly the fact that Mayweather is simply the better fighter.

Conor will prepare as if it's do-or-die. If I can convince you of nothing else I hope it's that Conor really believes he can and will win.

Floyd was getting tagged repeatedly in all the sparring clips from yesterday I saw but just like the van Heerden footage it means nothing.

Do you think it's genuine preparation and genuine belief that he wins if he has an MMA team doing this?

I don't believe it anyway, but if I initially had belief then it would sway me to disbelieve.

Fair enough but there are definitely a few things he could do. On the night for example, is Kavanagh going to be in the corner? Having a boxing coach capable of understanding what's going on in front of him would be a huge asset there and then. Kavanagh will add nothing beyond shouting about being flowy

At least having a boxing team on board and committed would give off the impression that he is taking it seriously. It won't IMO make a difference to the result, but if he truly believes he can win then surely he must think it beneficial? It's what he thinks that matters.

In other words it gives this event a little bit more credibility.

Agreed, but as the Gamester says, it's weeks away...realistically very very little can be done by a boxing coach at this stage. Unless they're thinking is that in the game and art of boxing, Conor never wins, so why bring in a boxing coach. They could be thinking that the only chance Conor has here is by doing something outside the sphere of what a boxing coach can bring to the table, and try to beat Floyd by playing to Conor's existing strengths? I dunno....I sound dangerously close to giving Conor a chance here

I'd call that view (not yours) just downright foolish. It is boxing after all.

Yup, pretty much how I see it too. I do love watching Conor fight (I avoid all the social media tripe so tend to focus on what he's good at), but I've a hard time seeing how he has a chance here with this one. They're likely hoping to "shock the world" with a pretty early KO of Floyd, because while Conor's cardio has improved, I seriously doubt he has more than a few rounds in him considering the body shots that'll be coming at him. So if there is any slight hope, it'll have to happen early, very early.

I've said above I believe Mayweather will win and win comfortably, but for the record, while I do admire his ability to avoid getting hit, he has to be one of the most boring boxers I have ever seen. I got 2 ppv's in with him (Manni and Hatton) and I was not entertained at all by his defensive and cagey style.
In addition, one of the major gripes I have with boxing is that you can and do pick all of your opponents. To that end, Mayweather only ever boxed at a time when he knew he could take his opponent. For example, he ducked and dodged Manni for years and only took him on when he was for all intents and purposes, past it.
Don't get me wrong, for a man his age he is in fantastic shape and has made one of a hell of a mountain of money throughout his career. In terms of "GOAT", you couldn't argue that he should not be up there.
However, in terms of entertainment and go out and getting the opponent, he wouldn't be a favourite of mine.

If you want me to guess I think they will draft in a boxing-specific trainer to work alongside the team when they get to America in a week or 2 from now.

I think Manny Robles might be the guy to assist training and probably a good few of the Rock Gym fighters for sparring.

The reason I say Robles isn't just that he trains Conlan and Quigley, but I was very impressed with the interview he gave months back when he was asked how would he train Conor for the hypothetical fight and he said "I wouldn't discuss that with you" to the reporter. You very rarely hear leaks coming out of SBG on injuries etc, so having someone Conor trusts is important - especially in sparring. Last thing he needs is someone looking to prove a point and break his ribs in training.

So I could definitely see them pitching up camp in California. I know the 2x World Champions Robles trains are smaller guys but I'm sure Oscar Valdez would be very good to do a few rounds or some drills with to try get used to faster hand-speed.

I don't think it's wise if they rely 100% on MMA coaching for this contest. Owen Roddy is a great guy and good coach but you'd definitely want a pair of eyes and ears who has experienced World Title fights in boxing.

As of right now the corner is John, Owen and Artem. If that's the corner that rock up on fight night it's a mistake. It's one thing having an 0-0 fighter but to also have an 0-0 corner with no boxing experience would be madness. I'd personally rather Mick Conlan in the corner than Artem.

I dont think Floyd KOs him, I think its repeated punches and a ref stoppage. I dont think Floyd will flat line him or anything.

Regarding what it should be priced at? Its hard to tell, this is a fight where the best of all time is fighting an amateur boxer...... that never happened before so its hard to tell. What chance would you give Jeremy Stevens v Floyd? I know Conor has better striking than Stevens but in actual proper boxing how much better is he actually? Holloway v Floyd? This fight ends when floyd wants it to in my opinion I do think Floyd lets it go for a few rounds to make the fight look like a real event.

Ah no. Conor has far superior footwork, movement, reflexes and a better chin than Jeremy. If survival is the name of the game, then I'd back Conor to survive longer every time.

It's a fight so anything can happen but I'd be very surprised if it doesn't go 9 rounds or above. That's surely backed up with the odds on it going 12 rounds, right now it's not far off a coin-flip odds wise. 11/8 it goes the distance.
