So, to be clear, in normal combat with no hands tied behind backs etc, Conor has more chance in MMA to get a KO than he has against Floyd in boxing..

ESPN Sports Science measured the force of Conor's hardest punch at 754lbf (that's 754 pounds of force). That was at Featherweight. Add 100lbf for LW.

They also measured Cain Velasquez when he was Heavyweight Champion and it's a fair comparison to Stipe. They measured his hardest punch at 2,230lbf, three times harder.

More relevantly, Conor is 5' 9". To hit 6' 4" Stipe in the head there's no way he can do it without jumping into the air, which immediately renders most of his power meaingless.

From a pure physics standpoint, Conor has a way better chance of flattening Floyd than he does of KO'ing Stipe. Even when you factor in skill, he's still more likely to KO Floyd than Stipe.

Anyone who disputes it is clueless.

But other fighters, comparisons and analogies are always brought into discussions of fights.

Go back and look at the build-up to the Alvarez fight or the Diaz 2 fight. There was tons of discussion and comparisons about Khabib and Woodley in the build-up to both those fights. There was comparisons between Nate and Ferguson.

There's nothing 'diseased' in trying to educate a misinformed person who thinks that Conor's 750lbf punch would KO a heavyweight well used to taking 2,000lbf punches on the chin and standing up to them.

All of you people moaning about the direction of the thread are free to contribute your own talking points. That's how discussion forums go, post a different take on the fight and we'll discuss it.

Walshb might disagree with Mellor and myself on this one area but it's still very relevant to the fight at hand. His opinion that Conor has a better chance against Stipe than Floyd is a valid opinion, however misguided and incorrect it is.

754lbf of punching force is science. Conor punches that hard. Stipe regularly takes 2,000lbf punches on the chin and stands up to them. It's physically impossible for Conor to throw a 750lbf punch at a target that's 6' 4" in the air and 3 feet away from him.

Conor can't KO Stipe. He can KO Floyd.

I doubt he will but he can and I hope he does. That's that settled.

You can verify that he actually takes this force on the chin? Must have been getting hit with perfect punches with full force....Laboratory type shots.

Some hitech sh1t the UFC have going on there being able to measure the force/impact that their men absorb from punches.

I honestly think Conor will be spent after 3 to 4 rounds of boxing . Will be interesting to see if his cardio will be as bad as i think it will

More rests and no grappling will help, although hes only went 5 rounds in his life in mma once and just about won (got a second wind in the 4th tbf) but looked knackered even though it was a war.

I want you (and Walshb) to stop spamming the thread with nonsense about street fights, Stipe Miocic, Anthony Joshua, the difference between no chance and .01% chance, Conor and Floyd in an MMA fight. Talk about this actual fight. What can Conor do to win, keep his MMA stance, alter to a more conventional boxing stance, be aggressive, limit his striking and counter opportunistically, be clinch heavy and rough Floyd up. Man, I've been doing all of the above. I wrote long posts on what positives Conor has going into this fight, what punches and combinations I think will work.

I personally think he'll fight from a modified stance. He can't keep the hybrid karate stance because the weight distribution for MMA is completely different. He'll still be heavy on his lead leg though I don't think that's something he can change in a year.

I think the Tyson/Maidana leaping left-hook will be a go-to for Conor because of the sweeping arc will suit his footwork and Maidana did land it on Floyd.

I think he'll throw the lead-hand corkscrew uppercut often with the left hook behind it and the rear-hand uppercut behind the cross.

I think he'll definitely throw the straight left, the double straight and he'll try set it up with the jab.

He will have to be jabbing constantly and try double up on the jab to protect himself . I can see his right arm being numb after 3 rounds .

Ok. Agree to disagree. Even David Haye (a heavyweight) couldn't land many punches on Valuev's chin without leaping into the shots and when you leap into shots you lose a ton of power from having both legs in the air.
