The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 3.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.

Lads consider this the one and only warning - big fight with a lot of hype around it. It brings new fans to the forum as well as the regulars so try and get along. Any trolling or nonsense and people will find themselves on a break from the forum and that applies to everyone.

I agree with the sentiment but I'd like to see someone like Stitch who is very used to the big fights under the bright lights.

It's going to be the biggest stage possible and you'd think it'd be wise to pick someone with that experience.

In saying that, they might go with someone like Joe Clifford because he'd know John from his work with SafeMMA and he's also UFC affiliated.

I would wonder how much better Stitch would be to another high level experienced cut person, I have no doubt he is good a his job and has lots of high profile experience but I am dubious he has some special ability that hundreds of other good cut people don't have.

I've no idea. I'm just guessing but in a high pressured event and limited time between rounds and a lot of hustle & bustle, you'd want someone who is quick, efficient and calm.

I mean look at what happened in the UFC with Yair Rodriguez. That was shameful corner-work from the cut-man, he didn't put the enswell once on the area he needed to but did attend to the cut on the bridge of the nose.

It didn't make much difference in the end but you don't want a cut-man making mistakes in a fight like this, especially as Conor might well be needing good corner work on cuts.

There were suggestions at the time that the cutman acted appropriately. Rogan is kind of a neanderthal and understands things only on the most basic level.

He got really bent out of shape there, even the Lomanchenko and Dillashaw sparring, Loma was in cruise control and he said it took him 4 rounds to get used to his distance.

Could only watch that for about 3 minutes. Schaub is talking so much nonsense there it's actually incredible. Almost everything he said in the first couple of minutes was mindless waffle.

I generally like him and he's good on Rogans fight companions, but he's really gone way too deep into this. The reasons he's giving for McGregor having a chance against Mayweather make absolutely no sense.

The guy sitting beside him is an Olympic boxing medalist, Schaub was a journeyman mma fighter yet went on like he knows more than Jeffries (wouldnt let him get a word in)

Clueless he is I dont know why I click on his videos and put money in his pocket but hes comedy gold with his views I used to think he was doing it for controversy.

Just because he competed doesn't mean his opinion is going to make sense. The same man had to be told by Joe Rogan that he's not a top level fighter. He felt that he would surprise people in a wrestling match with Cain Velasquez. His opinions carry less weight for me than a lot of posters on this forum alone.

The idea that someone has to have competed at the top level for their opinion to have a solid basis is absurd. Equally, the idea that just because someone competed at the top level that their opinion has a solid basis, is also absurd.

Well if we take emotion out of opinion and use just logic, the above is the only conclusion you could come to. The fact that McGregor doesn't belong in the ring with Mayweather is in no way a put down to McGregor. Some of the names you have mentioned above are some a time boxing greats, and they didn't look like they belonged in the ring with Mayweather.

The McGregor attitude of nothing is impossible is a noble one, no doubt. And it's gotten him to the top of the MMA world, first time two belt holder, knocked out an MMA legend in 13 seconds, put on great shows against Diaz even in defeat, headlined the first MMA card in MSG. All extraordinary achievements.

But to think he is the man to finally defeat Mayweather is delusional. There is no logical way to make him anything but a 20/1+ outsider (I make him much, much higher odds than that).

The fact that the fight is happening, and that it will probably be in the top two selling boxing PPVs of all time, shows that the general public do not understand combat sports. They do not seem to realise that boxing and MMA are different sports.

Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks and Frank Bruno couldn't do a thing against Tyson in the 1980's. Spinks was undefeated going into the contest, 30-0, and didn't even last a round against Iron Mike. Tony Tucker at least took him the distance but he was still beaten handily.

Along comes Buster Douglas, a guy Mike just over-looked and took for granted, and not only was he KO'd by that uppercut and follow-up punches, he was also getting beat up for the 9 rounds that came before it.

I don't think it's delusional for people to fancy Conor to connect with a good punch. It might be outlandish to think that said punch KO's Floyd stiff, but it's not delusional. Floyd has been hit clean many times, he's not a robot.

Conor is an underdog for a reason. He's unlikely to win the fight.

But, again, Floyd isn't some flawless boxer. Look at the straight left down the pipe Judah lands at 2:01 below. There was no fancy set-up to the punch, just 2 pawing jabs, a slight step-in and a straight left. Conor has many times gone to pawing jabs and straight lefts, he landed them clean against Buchinger, clean against Diaz and Alvarez too.

I'd love to hear someone explain to me why Conor couldn't land the shot Judah landed in identical circumstances. He's an accurate puncher and there was no sophistication or footwork involved from Zab.

TL;DR - Floyd might be the best boxer in the last 30 years but if he plants his feet like he did against Judah and stands in front of Conor, then yes 100% Conor will land that straight left down the middle.

Floyd also recovers like a boss, so even if Conor does land clean I don't know if it'll make much difference. I'm obviously hoping he can put him on wobbly legs.
