A lot less than that, according to Comreg's latest quarterly report there was a total of 12,076 fibre connections, across all providers, at the end of Q1.

It's worth remembering also that the figure includes urban connections that have been available since 2014.

Back there from being out a while, went out to have a look at the pole across the road from my place and there's a black box with white markings on it saying CRM-something which I assume is Croom and on the side there's a yellow label with a black serial code and a roll of wire wrapped around it, the cable for connecting I assume (Described it incase I can't post links yet as it's still a new account haha)

Is that the box the contractors have installed or have I lost my mind? I don't remember ever seeing that up there but keep in mind I never look at those poles anyway so, I hope it is what they installed otherwise I'll look crazy now haha

Yeah it looks like it, I hope it is because the contractors for Eir were around a few weeks ago so I'm assuming and hoping that box is it

Very few fibre customers connected....... that's what I thought. Looks like blue line work was/is a spoiling exercise. Seems to have worked from what I hear.

So I'm actually on the right track having that there? YES! Atleast it's a good thing thats there, so realistically it shouldn't be far off being done. I'm somewhat relieved at that, that's that sorted then. Now all I've to wait for is Eir to actually acknowledge we're waiting quite a bit for this our road/line can finally be on the fibre line.

Waheyyy have 1000mbs ordered and due to be installed in early July. Took a pretty lengthy online chat to get it ordered. Was offered a good deal at one price, went through all the details and then was told that it was actually 10 dearer per month. Ordered the mobile package and chose one of the phones they said was free, only to be told a while later that the phone was 29. Anyway got it ordered in the end and got a confirmation email.

Should I contact them before the install date to make sure its happening? Seems to be a lot of cases on here of engineers coming out to install phone lines when its supposed to be FTTH

No, premises aren't counted as 'Passed' until it is actually possible for the customer to order Fibre.

Not true

I had a splice box outside my door for 6 weeks before it went live. Only when it went live and I could place an order did the numbers go up..

If what you are saying is true, then the takeup rate for the Rural rollout is only 3.49% (1,400/40,114). I would guess it's at least 20%, so the number of premises where an order can actually be placed could be as low as 7,000.

Quarterly updates will be published on the Departments website. The Q1 2017 update will be published shortly and the eir rollout is in line with the Commitment Agreement. I am advised that in the period from 1 January to end March 2017, 30,064 premises have been passed. This brings to 40,114 the total subset of the 300k premises that eir has passed since they commenced work in late 2016. Of those, over 1,400 premises have been connected.

Although I have to say the numbers are so out of whack, I wonder whether there is an error in the Dail reply and it should have said 14,000.

[edit] Although that makes no sense given the Conreg figures.

Politicians don't care - more than likely will be another general election between now and eoy 2018. So this is just another PR exercise no different than the last shower of leeches.
Infrastructure as much as they would like you to believe is way down their list of priorities.

All i can tell you is based on my experience they don't define as passed until the area is live and you can place an order.

I have a very strong suspicion that the take up is over very low. Looking around my own area I would say under 10%.

However many people were tied into contracts as Vodafone and a couple of wireless providers had scoured the area in the last 3 to 4 months tying people into contracts of 18 to 24 months,

FTTH sales will improve. not everyone is jumping at it as soon as it goes live. Only Up till February there was less than 10k rural lines passed? 12k actual connections is not bad for a rollout that's only live 6 months.

I have a feeling most of those 12k are rural too, I can't imagine too many FTTH sales in areas like Sandyford where Virgin has always been available.

What is dissapointing tho is the rollout seems to be slowing down again, they should be passing way more than 12k homes per month at this stage to meet the target of December 2018.

Would have to agree with Gonzo, that it's not a lack of potential customers that's the issue here it's how slow the actual rollout is going. People aren't signing up because they can't sign up. 3000 passed in last month - by anybodies measure, that is a brutally low number.

I agree with Damienirel. Line has been up in my location for months. Nothing happening for months. very frustrating.

My areas was wired Saturday 10th December 2016, some parts earlier than that in November, didn't go live till April 2017. Delighted I have it now but it was a solid 4 month wait before being able to order, if that is going on in most places, many are not gonna be able to order till 2019.

Have you seen the "rural exchange timeline" on the new rollout map. Looking at my own area it would seem to be hugely optimistic. Current passed for my area 210, forecasted for end of this month 886.

You would love to think they could do it but I'm seeing nobody on the ground. Seems like total nonsense.

just had a look at that now, the numbers are all different to what was originaly planned, there seems to be less than what was suggested back in 2015.

Dunshaughlin is now listed as 554 instead of 570.
Kilbride is listed as 17 instead of 20.

Every exchange seems to have some premises shaved off.
