Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

Look at this way polish attaches to paint and wax attaches itself to polish, once the polish is gone the wax has nothing to attach to.

Thats a simple basic way of thinking and not technical in any way, just simples like.

You asked if it was same for all polish's before, then No is answer it is mainly your filler polish or glaze's that it will refer to.

CarPro Inside, Dr. Leather Liquid Cleaner, Gliptone would be a few worth looking at.

The polish layer is the weakest link. So whatever wax or sealant is applied will be bonding to this and not the paintwork, thus reducing the claimed durability. All claims would be made on the assumption that the paintwork is fully prepared, and in the best state for bonding.
Prep'd would be washed, de-tar'd, de-iron'd, clayed, polished (machine), polish removal by wash / wipedown.
Applying a layer of glaze or hand polish in between the paintwork and protection prevents maximum bond....it's often why people are disappointed by a certain product after buying it on the basis it would perform in a certain way, only to not be using it to its full potential.

Lads,

Just back after a bit of a month long road trip to the Black Forest and Bavarian Alps via the Rhine and wanted to report back on CarPro Fog Fight. I got it just before I left and I thought that a proper test would be the Motorhome Glass as they can suffer from condensation.

I got it from our friendly CarPro agent in Dublin and application was as per bottle. The glass was cleaned with 70% IPA first and then again with CarPro Eraser. Two sprays onto the applicator for the side glass with three for half the windscreen. I had divided the Ducato windscreen in two as its a big bugger. Buffed off with the supplied microfibre.

Then it was off on my holidays. As I was going to be sleeping in the Motorhome, condensation on the inside of the glass first thing in the morning can be annoying as I have to wait for it to evaporate before driving (or wipe it with kitchen paper and suffer streaks). As I had read some negative reviews about streaks, not working and rainbows on the glass, I carried the bottle of IPA with me to remove if needed. I also took the kit to reapply if necessary.

Well, how did it cope with the stern test - bloody brilliant. I had zero condensation on the inside of the glass even after a month (except for the one patch I missed by the tax disc). Sometimes, especially after a humid night I thought that there was no way it was going to work and it did, even after a month. It worked so well that fellow campers were wondering what I had used as they were using tissue to mop up their condensation.

CarPro Fog Fight is now part of my camping equipment and can really recommend it. I've had no trouble with the rainbow effect in low sun that some reviews say.

Also, as an aside, the surface of the German roads makes life much easier for the detailer. After rain, they don't hold surface water, they dry very quickly meaning no great amount of dirty spray you get here. The most dirt the motorhome got was on the road home from Rosslare.

Nice tip on the polish. Didn't know that it shortend the life of the wax. Is that with all polishes? Or just the combo o used.

Not sure if it's fair to call this detailing, but my first time under taking a big clean myself.
Genuinely enjoyed it l, still the interior and bay to do.

Foamed and washed with reflect auto care shampoo and foam,
Detar with carpro tar x, which I was very impressed with.
Fall out removal using bilt hamber kerrosol
Wheels cleaned with bilt hamber wheel care
Clayed with a meguairs clay and bilt hamber quick detailer.
Polished with auto glym super resin polish.
Waxed with bilt hamber finis wax.

Hugely impressed with the bilt hamber gear.

Fitted some new rays wheel nuts while at it

Today i did detailing. I used dual action polisher with microfiber cutting pad using v36 and then followed by microfiber finishing pad using carpro reflect. What a great combo. No more annoying swirl marks.Holograms are all gone. Then i used super resin polish followed by collinite 645. What a result. The van is now shiny like a mirror finish.
Happy Days :-)

Thank God there is Detailingshed where i bought collinite and carpro reflect. Its always nice to support local.

Washed the car with 50cal tracer, dried it, and then used a 50:50 mix of chemical Guys V7 and Sonax BSD - a combination I've been meaning to try for a while.
The tracer shampoo & the QD combination gave a lovely glassy shine.
