Twins

Lady is a tramp

We have twins staying in our house at the moment (of the female teenage variety) and I'm a bit fascinated by them. They're not like a normal pair of siblings, they actually like each other and spend all their time together and get on well together. Why is it so unusual for regular siblings close in age to get on well, but common for twins?

They're not even identical but I haven't bothered asking which one is which because they're just always there together, and they have all the same interests and the same mannerisms etc. I do know their names, but they always seem to just be referred to as "the twins" by everyone, no one ever seems to call either one of them by name. They come as a package.

Got me to thinking that actually, it's similar with any sets of twins I've ever known growing up. They always seem to have the same group of friends and end up mostly living together, travelling together, etc. I guess there comes a point when all that ends and they settle down and get married etc, and their lives become separate, but I wonder is that special twin bond always there? Or does the connection wear off with time?

Are you a twin? (Or even a triplet or quad etc?) What's your experience with them? Any freaky supernatural psychic twin stories? Anyone else have the same mild fascination with all things twinny, or is it just me?

Two twins means the same as twos socks - i.e. One pair.

Not necessarily, socks ALWAYS come in pairs whereas people don't.

I married a twin and also have twin sons. My mother in law would talk about how difficult it was parenting twins, until I became pregnant with my boys. Then it was "oh, it wasn't really THAT bad!" ðŸ˜„
She regretted her honesty.

For those that criticise the same clothing thing, I challenge you to parent twins and ensure they are wearing clean and properly fitting clothes every day, never mind dawdling in a shop choosing different outfits for them. What a luxury that kind of spare time would be! It's a case of run in, grab two of everything and head for the checkout.

How many of the twins are a as a result of IVF though? I don't really think twins as a result of IVF could share any of the mystical relations that we (just for fun sometimes) associate with twins. What, since they are completely different eggs who find themselves in the same womb because of artificial intervention?
Genuine twins however, who find themselves either of the same egg or two eggs together who got into the womb through natural means, that is fascinating and remarkable!

I'm around a half hour older than my sister and I used to milk it by telling her to "respect her elder" when we were only like, 8 years old anyway. :pac:

I thought of some more stories! Not my own but still fun/interesting.

One came from my friend in college. She was in a class with a girl and they were friendly, then the girl moved classes but they'd still see each other around. Sometimes the girl would wave and my friend would wave back, other times she'd wave first and the girl would look at her like she had two heads, leading her to stop saying hi, but then randomly the girl would wave at her again. This went on for ages and she was so confused as to why she sometimes ignored her... and then one day she saw her and her twin together! The three of them suddenly realised what had been going on

The next one is from my dad. He's not a twin, but two of his brothers are, but if anyone ever had to guess they'd assume it was my dad and his brother - they have the exact same mannerisms and the exact same voice; I hear the difference now, but I don't know if it's because I'm older or if their voices have changed. I once heard my uncle at the door and ran downstairs thinking it was my dad!
Anyway, one night my dad had a dream that he was talking to their grandmother who had died a good while before, and while he found the dream comforting, he was confused by the fact that just beyond where they were in the dream he could see someone watching them through a window. He didn't think much of it, but then his brother told him about a dream he'd had the same night: he dreamt he was watching my dad speaking to their grandmother but he was behind a window far away and couldn't get over to them! No matter what you believe in, that's a huge coincidence at least, and I found it cool

I have aunts that are fraternal twins. And one of them has twin children herself. My aunts are weird though they have similar looking faces but have completely different colouring. One is very dark, almost Indian looking with naturally black hair. All her kids look foreign too. The other one has the same colouring as me. Very fair skin and hair. Their school photos are very funny. One of them looks like the child on the foreign exchange programme, but they are twins!

There were identical twins in my class at school and I still can't tell them apart. I was uploading old photos on Facebook of us from when we were in school and was moritified that I didn't know who to tag..

I have 6 year old twin boys, conceived naturally on the 3rd pregnancy. They share a room, are in separate classes in school & while very very alike physically can be total opposites personality wise. The eldest is just that by a minute but takes great pleasure telling his little brother that! 1 of them is been assessed for ADHD, processing delay etc & has a speech impediment, his social skills wouldn't be as good as his siblings but he's getting there! They are both in to sport, competitive against each other & could kill each other 1 minute & be rolling around the floor laughing the next! We've e had some of the funniest funniest times with them, like the time 1 of them tried to put his willy through a hole that was patterned on a stool (he was 2)!

Seriously though, I do recall one time where I knew something was wrong. We lived in the states at the time, and I went round the block looking for him. Found his bike under the front of a car, and he was being brought away in an ambulance. He now has a nice scar on the back of his head to differentiate.

We sound the same I'm told, and have similar interests. Have often bought the same stuff separately. I've two kids, he has three. No twins yet. :-)

Other half of twin here (yes, not a great phrase i know).
People often mix us up. Constantly being saluted by people I don't know, as does he. I tend just to wave and smile and walk on!
I have had a work colleague jump into marks car thinking he was me.
Friend of my wifes saw him "me" with another woman (turned out to me mark and his gf at the time, thats my story and im sticking to it.)

Do have similar interests, so went to the video store one day (vhs days) to rent mall rats (years after it was out).
Only copy was out , guess who had it?

Did i ever hear about xxxx band? yep listening to them now....
and if i hit him, he feels it, how weird is that?

Married to an identical twin. They use to be extremely close but have drifted apart. Have a very complex relationship & listening to them talk its really strained & uncomfortable. Is however something between them that will always be there.

A few times the twin has bought a top & my wife has bought the exact same top online completely separately. Thats about the extent of the "magic" between them & is really just the same taste in clothes.

They hate been called "the twins" & really get annoyed when people don't bother learning their names.

Without fail every guy asks when I explain that am married to an identical twin "have you ever tried it on with the other pretending it was your wife?"

One of them (the guy I worked in the same branch with) just played along and said hi back, however his twin used to blank the person or give them the evil eye.

Not many people knew that they were twins or that they worked for the same company, so my friend used to regularly get miffed people asking him why he'd been so rude to them the other day!

No twins in our family, but our kids have lots of twin friends. My daughter had 3 sets in her class. Two were fraternal. One fraternal set are her closest friends, but don't look much like each other. The other fraternal set are boy/girl and the identical set have different birthdays!

Another child made friends with Ireland's most notorious twins.

My wife's brother is a twin, but the other twin was still born.

An amusing aside is that a lot of people think our two youngest are twins, even though they are two years apart!

I, fortunately have a distinctive freckle. I have heard of permanent marker being used.

And hot twins ladies? I don't believe it. I'm going to need pictures. For research purposes.

Only way we could tell ours apart for a long time was that 1 had a birthmark on his right arm! Sometimes still have to look for the birthmark if they are in similar clothes like uniforms.
