On the Irish times this morning. Terrible news to hear. Really hope those idiots get caught and that these Islamophobic hate crimes don't become a regular occurrence here in Ireland.

This type of thing will become common occurrence because of the snowballing amount of terror attacks in the past 18 months. It's unfair on the people who just want to go about their daily lives and aren't harming anyone but imo it's an inevitable anti social consequence. Those responsible are vile but there's many of those people are out there.

A mosque in Galway city was vandalised last night while people were inside praying.

Members of the local Ahmadiyya Muslim community were gathered for prayers at the Mosque on Old Monivea Road, when a rock was thrown at windows close to the entrance.

The incident happened shortly after 11pm last night when prayers to mark Ramadan were taking place.

Imam Ibrahim Noonan said there was a full congregation in the building at the time.

Utter knobs who probably think they are fighting some good fight...but maybe I am giving them too much credit... maybe they are just extremely thick.

Why didn't they give the footage which clearly shows the culprits to the garda and charge them with vandalism. Idiots will be idiots. No need to go to press and try to make links between what happened in London and your mosque. Nobody was going there until you went to press over silly vandalism instead of letting the Garda do their job.

I live near a mosque and I am expecting to see someone give the congregation grief at some stage. Having said that, it seems to be a very welcoming mosque and a lot of the rough locals go in and get fed in their restaurant for a small sum every day. That's a good way of integrating into the community.

Wouldn't consider it an ordeal or something to be overly concerned about. Doesn't have the hallmarks of being a well-thought out deliberate attack, designed to cause panic or damage people.

Windows can be replaced.

Like the vandalism on the George was due to the fact it was close to the same sex marriage referendum, the fact Ireland is becoming more homophobic, the rise of Donald Trump, etc etc...

The article clearly mentions that the Gardai were contacted and that an investigation has begun.

Hopefully it's just a case of opportunistic petty vandalism by some stupid teenagers, rather than something more sinister, but it's no harm letting people know that these type of things can happen, even in comparativly small and peaceful places like Galway. Sweeping things under the carpet doesn't tend to do anyone any favours.

Have you even read the article mate. They did call the Gardai last night.

ah, my mistake, i had just gotten through the first 11 or 12 paragraphs and wondering why they just didn't call the garda over this. should have finished the article before commenting.

That's a horrible thing to happen but at the same time minor enough thankfully. I think it's likely that attacks/vandalism/harrassment at mosques could become a bigger issue unfortunately. Even if it's just local scumbags looking for any excuse for an outlet for their usual thuggish behaviour.

I would be concerned about the mosque in my area. They already antagonise locals with disgraceful parking and mass abandonment of cars all over the greens and grass verges. It won't take much for the local thugs to feel vindicated in causing trouble for them.

Would love to know why they were praying so late at night 11.20 pm and why they had children there at that time. Do these children not have to get up for school?

You should see the state of the roads and grass verges and the mass abandonment of cars on 'Cemetery Sunday' around my area. Not one mosque goer among them.

It's Ramadan, Isha would have been around then so it would be a time of prayer

While obviously undesirable, revenge attacks are an inevitable and natural consequence of the terror attacks... particularly when many people feel that there is a lack of a coordinated and robust response from those in authority!

Just to be clear, I am in no way condoning such behaviour. I just don't see how it can realistically be prevented if the current climate prevails.

The flip side of such attacks, is possibly that Muslim communities might start taking a more active role in policing their own people. Because currently it's far too easy for the majority of Muslims to just turn a blind eye or shift responsibility elsewhere.

It is their religion!!

All Muslims need to recognise that there is something rotten and evil hidden within their ranks... and they need to be more proactive in dealing with it. Talking about peace is one thing, but actions speak louder than words... I think it is time more Muslims showed their commitment to peace, by doing more to prevent radicalisation!
