Terrorism - What can be carried legally but used for self defence on the streets ?

I asked this question before about self defence in the home during a burglary and the best answer was a fire extinguisher. Keeps you at a distance from the burgular, is unexpected so it shocks the person, is non lethal and if the intruder continues up the stairs towards you it can be thrown at them.

If it goes to court it's a perfectly acceptable house hold item to defend your self with.

I was in a house that was burgualed at night twice as a teen ager and I wanted to know what to do next time. I thought that was a great idea. Thankfully the house was never burgulared again. But I was calmer having a plan if there was a repeat.

So what about a terrorist attack where you are confronted with a knife or someone beside you is being stabbed and you want to help them.

What everyday item can be carried with you to protect you from a zombie?

What if you are cornered?

I would feel a whole lot better having some weapon that I would only use in self defence or to save another person life if I could

What's legal? What's good advice?

It's not always possible or advisable to run from lunatics or muggers, some times it's better to stand your ground and fight

And no I don't want to carry a Hurley stick with me everywhere!

Unlikely to happen to you true, unlikely to occur in Ireland, most certainly not true - we're on borrowed time, there will be an islamic attack in Ireland within a couple of years. Sweden thought they were safe too. The only countries that won't be attacked in the short to medium term are those whose Muslim populations are too small to support, hide, and encourage islamic extremism, and we don't fit into that bracket any more.

On the weapon to carry, if you are being attacked with a machete or other long-bladed implement, then you will need something of at least equal reach to hold them off - a hurley, slashook, sword or the like. Watch videos of travellers fighting at weddings and funerals - they make excellent defensive use of long-bladed implements - you rarely hear of them being killed or seriously injured despite the violence of these fights, due to being able to hold one another at distance.
