The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

In thali again at the weekend. Just had a main course each but we were stuffed. Great value.

It's a crying shame but it won't last, there was 10 people in there while we were there and didn't seem to be doing much takeaways.

a mate of mine has been there a few times.. once he had a prawn dish which was dodgy - but he likes the curries.. food like prawns should perhaps only be ordered in a "fish" restaurant imo - or at least somewhere where you know that they are gonna be fresh (i assume they use frozen)

I absolutely LOVE getting a meal that's too much to eat in one sitting (assuming that it's tasty, obvs), lunch sorted for the following day! What's not to like?

Congealed leftover food? Uhhh... Yummy? I like plenty of variety, and fresh food. Eating the same thing several days in a row isn't for me at all. Plus, bringing it home, storing it, stinking up the place. Yuck. I know American's do it all the time. I thought it was gross when I lived there, and I still do. Plus, I love food. Just bloody love it, don't have to be remotely hungry, will eat. I'd be 20 stone if I ate at places with huge portions.

Anyway, I tried the upstairs restaurant in the silver quay the other night. Surprisingly good for my fish special, which was pan-fried John Dory. Perfectly cooked, bit of butter on it, came with a nice salad and some chips. (salad not dressed, it had a blob on dressing on top of dry leaves... pet peeve, but letting it slide cos it's a pub). He had the chicken curry. Came with rice, a pita bread and poppadums. lol at Irish triple carbs. Veg in the curry was extra. Chicken curry was so-so. Not terrible or anything, but tasted like your pub standard packet of mcdonalds curry powder mixed with water, rather than something with actual ginger or garlic in there with their own spices. Grand like, but not anything to recommend.

Their wine prices are cray cray by the way. €6.75 for my glass of unremarkable white wine.

Kids had pasta with some tomatoey sauce. They loved it.

It's a nice spot now actually with the redecoration. Comfortable, and looks great. They have these two beautiful yellow leather circular booths in there, and I've never seen them occupied. They only let parties of 3 people use them, I've asked to use them as two adults with a toddler and child and been refused. No idea why, you could seat up to six I'd say.

Agreed on Silver Quay, my parents like to eat there if they're up visiting and the redecoration upstairs is lovely - have eaten in the booth, can confirm they're comfy :pac:

Food is solid 7/10 but nothing to write home about in my experience, good for a quick bite in the evening.

New chef in the Montenottee hotel. Ate there recently for Sunday lunch. Hands down the nicest meal I have had in a long while. A bit pricey (€30 / 3 courses) but well worth it.

Doesn't sound expensive at all...especially if it was good.

Had mushroom soup, roast chicken, bread and butter pudding. Simple good quality food. Side plates of garlic gratin and veg very good too. Definitely not Pallas foods.

Just got a salad box from the new loving salads on Washington street. Its a different setup to the academy street shop. Its a salad bar with individual ingredients as opposed to the premade combo's in the other shop. Its excellent anyway, paid €7 a very decent sized feed must be said.

A big thing too is they have meat and fish, that's my big gripe with Rocket man

where is this? another one - yeah - as i love the academy street one.. washington st is a wash with emerging food places - excuse the pun

Saw their post about it on Facebook just now, can't wait to try it cos I love Loving Salads, so this place sounds great! What side of the street is it on?

I like the food in loving salads but I wish they'd use wider, flatter tubs. I hate the way, if you're getting a few different salads, they are spooned on top of each other.

this is my only pet peeve with Loving Salads too!! I thought of saying it to them - just as a bit of constructive criticism .. not in a cutting way

I did mention it to the owner once, he said he was looking at other options but nothing seems to have happened. I never go there as a result.

We got a menu pushed through our letter box in Douglas. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to read it. Small grey writing on a black background.

I think he uses biodegradable plastic so maybe not a great selection available.

Tried Arthur Maynes this morning for brunch this morning - had the El Chapo and loved it - the right tonic for a cold, wet day, haven't eaten since. Lady who served us was lovely as well plus, while it was dark down the back it was great being a bit cut off and not looking out a window. Lovely spot for a bite for two

I went to go there today but they had literally closed the kitchen 5 mins before we walked in the door at 16:05!
The girl apologised and said they were still getting used to things, id say they have been busy! Smelled amazing in there though!
