Well fair play to ye lads for today is all i can say, savage game of hurling which Cork deservedly one, people will say Tipp under performed but that does a dis service to Cork today, Tipp scored 1 26 today 1 22 from play they played well, just ran into an incredibly hungry committed Cork who's young lads played like championship veterans with zero fear of Tipp. I expect a savage game between us and yourselves in a few weeks hopefully a return to those amazing games of the 2000s between the two counties. Cork hurling very much on the way back that result really opens up the championship this year well played.

At last I can go into work tomorrow in Galway and not have the piss taken out of me....go on the rebels, a great performance, even if we lost it would have been a great performance, that's all we can ask for.

Burial.

Spillane always looked a great prospect but I was a little worried seeing him a few times in the league but he was monstrous today. Fair play to him after coming back from a cruciate injury too. Coleman has serious hurling in him.

Over the ****ing moon.

Even after 65 min just before we got 2nd goal if we had been beaten then I have been very impressed.

What struck me about Cork today is that when they got the goal we got next 2 scores. We stood up as men today.

And we were the better hurling team too. It wasn't a body on the line effort, we also out hurled them and that to me is most pleasing bit

Great performance. Happy to have been wrong. 5 new lads were superb. More experienced heads really led the way, especially Ellis and Lehane. Harnedy looked like getting back to his form of 2 years ago. Very positive. Need to back it up again in 3 weeks time though.

It really was a super game of hurling, great and abundant scores, tight throughout.

for all the excitement today , surely there were people down in the peoples republic confidant of strong showing today espically with the newcomers to the squad

my one taught coming away from paric ui rinn back in febuary was kingston and cork have done serious work over the winter , this years championship is going to be very open and any of 5 or 6 teams can win the all ireland todays win has put ye in the mix i think

Newcomers mean nothing, Unless they perform!

Still think Liam will go to 1 of 3 teams and just don't think Cork will be one of them, would love to be wrong though.

Just a few things on todays game...

It was the highest ever combined tally (62 points) in a Cork-Tipperary championship game beating the 1987 Munster final replay (59 points)

The 2 Cork goal scorers were Shane Kingston who was out for 12 months with a broken leg and Mickey Cahalane who was out over 18 months.

No disrespect intended Dick but the Cork/Wat game in 4 weeks time will be a samp squib by comparison with todays game. And there's zero chance it will resemble the classics of the 2000s between the two couties.
That is unless Waterford decide to go man to man and scrap that insufferable sweeper system.

thatcomment went up around half time , i couldnt understand it either , he was one of the better players in the first 35 aswell

I was in Thurles today, great game and a fantastic win. I won €120 on LOI results last friday and put it down on Cork at 3.5/1. Nice little win for me too. Having went to all the league games this year I just saw that little bit extra in Cork play and felt very confident going up this morning. The senior players like Harnedy, Horgan, Nash, all showed their experience today and that drove the young lads on. delighted for Cahalane scoring that goal, for a lad who was told 18 months back that he'd never play any sport again, he really deserved it. Great to see some classic Munster hurling again, end to end stuff no quarter asked for nor given, "tactics" left at home, next up for Cork is Waterford and I hope they don't spoil the free flowing hurling by putting that "soccer sweeper" stuff on display, this will probably be the last munster championship, and I wouldn't like to see it spoiled by negative play..........

Good as it was to watch, conceding 2-27 and even 1-26 is bad defending and I know Cork won't be concerned about it today but it is a concern.

What a fantastic game of hurling that was and it's great to see Cork back. People will say that Tipp didn't perform but that is nonsense. Two teams went out and both were brilliant in my opinion.

Both Cork and Galway have shown that the only way to beat Tipp is by taking them on at their own game. Stupid defensive systems just won't work against them. I can see Waterford sticking with the defensive system against Cork as there is the feeling that Corks forwards struggle a bit without space. I'd love a proper game of hurling although I think Cork even had an extra midfielder yesterday? So the days of 15 v 15 seem to be gone. I could be wrong as its hard tell from the telly.

That was Hurling at it best yesterday. Please Waterford don't play that S**t sweeper system that u copied from from the football lads,play like ye played against Kilkenny last year. Fair play to Michael Ryan he goes out to play Hurling at it purest. Hurling needed that game yesterday, lets look forward to a long hot summer. It was said that Cork can find hurlers like mushrooms they can grow over night, lets hope we found a few yesterday.

There was a recent interview with Luke Meade where he talked about Michael Cahalane and the recent win

“I was like a fan, I was nearly trying to run on to the pitch to celebrate,” recalls Meade.
“I’m absolutely delighted for him to be back playing really. He’s an absolute gent, we’re all just delighted for him.”

“He was in sixth year at the time, we were in fifth and when we heard that (he couldn’t play), we were absolutely devastated.

“He’s an absolute legend and he’s a really nice fella. He was probably the best player I played with growing up.

“In the Harty Cup there with Hammies, he was carrying us through most games. We were absolutely gutted when we heard the news but when we heard about him coming back, we were ecstatic really.”

The duo were part of a young Cork hurling wave that helped submerge Tipperary in Semple Stadium. For Meade it was a new occasion to embrace.

He was determined to settle quickly. Clipping over a point as early as the 4th minute helped in that regard.
“I was nervous going into it. You’re trying to get an early touch or an early score, so thankfully I got a couple points there at the start to settle the nerves.

“It was definitely a lot faster than the league and the league was a big step up to what I was usually playing at.

“The pace was pretty fast. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was unreal. Going around in the parade was a really special moment.”
Meade hit the ground running in 2017, nailing down a starting place on the Cork team. His playing style leaves him well-equipped for the modern game, he is constantly on the move and has been an important link to the Cork attack.

“I think probably the way hurling has gone, you have to be fit. Personally I’d probably do it anyway.
“At the start of the league when we were getting stats back, I suppose I didn’t really know how many kilometres I’d done.

“When it’s your first time playing with Cork and the stats come back, you don’t really know what to expect I suppose. I think that’s just the way I played.”

The spotlight fell on Cork’s newcomers after but Meade is keen to apportion praise to their more established figures.
“The older lads were really good to us, really welcoming. There was a lot of young fellas coming in (this year), so we weren’t alone at that stage.
“It wasn’t as if we were the only young fellas coming in upsetting the whole thing. They really wanted to make a good spirit in the camp and I think the group has really gelled since the Munster senior league started as well.”

Sunday’s success will inject a massive shot of confidence. Meade has developed through a Cork underage process that hasn’t been accompanied by success.

In 2014 he was part of a minor team that fell short by two points to Limerick in a Munster semi-final. His U21 career has been characterised by two quarter-final reversals, in 2015 emphatically by Waterford when Meade grabbed a goal and last June to Limerick in a convincing fashion.
Meade has another U21 opportunity on 13 July with a semi-final against Waterford. Before that there will be a senior semi-final battle with the Deise to contend with.

“Obviously we didn’t have good memories of that (in 2015) but we’ll hope to bridge that gap.
“The main message (on Sunday) was we’re happy with the performance, we’re happy to beat Tipperary.

Will Cork beat Waterford? Waterford have earmarked the championship early on and for Derek McGrath if he doesn't win Munster with Tipp gone they will hardly win the All Ireland through the qualifiers...

Waterford always earmark the championship early on.....pretty sure everyone does.
Having a game under our belt will seriously stand to us. I don't really rate Waterford highly but I would love to play them 15 v 15 and not with sweepers all over the place.
