You can't really compare BOTW to TLOU, the difference in those games, TLOU was pushing an ancient console to the limit, BOTW is a brand new game on a brand new system.

No, I'd give it 10/10. A few frame rate drops doesn't rob a game of 40% of its overall score.

I've experienced frame rate drops a few times and most of them have involved Moblins. They need to fix that on Wii U. I can remember one specific incident around Death Mountain with one Moblin and it dropped into single figures. It was horrific, I don't know what it is that these guys do but they cause this game a huge amount of stress.

There was a camp of them in the north of the game up in the snowy mountains, but I don't remember it being as bad. I must go back there to test it properly.

It's so few and far between that these incidents happen that it's not a problem. And I've seen a lot of reviewers say the same thing.

There's still that pause when you smack a Moblin in the face, but I think that's deliberately there because they know you need space to scream "Yeah, Bitch! That just happened!" at the screen.

This was quickly patched and fixed on Switch. A few framerate drops here and there, but nothing major these days.

EDIT - Just realised this is the Wii U thread, but the point remains about the game in general. It's totally fine to not like it, but to claim it's not a great game is just being contrary!

I consider myself to be on the same side as the people who have only played The Witcher 3. As in, I don't know what the **** I'm talking about. In that sense, my side is by far the biggest

As a matter of interest, do you own Breath of the Wild, on either format it has been released on?
Just wondering what you are basing your opinion on.
Not criticising at all, but it is an amazing game, by any metric, it forgoes the typical Legend of Zelda game play, to make something pretty special.

Hmm, not sure I can agree with that; played 130+ hours of the Witcher 3 (and will get the DLC at some point) and currently about 55 hours into BOTW. They are both games at the pinnacle of of the wider gaming experience, but for me the Witcher 3 pips BOTW. Like Witcher is a 97/100 game and BOTW is a 94/100

I'm sure it is subjective for each of us, but I'd be surprised if there weren't as many on my side of this discussion than on your side.

Whatever our preferences, most sane people will agree it's a hell of a game to see out the Wii U!

I've been playing games since the 80s... BOTW pretty much is the second coming. It's the closest I've experienced to gaming perfection.

It's ironic that outside the bubble, there's a load of criticism that Nintendo never try anything new. Inside the bubble, however, there's seemingly more criticism Nintendo keep trying new **** for no earthly reason. Looking at you Skyward Sword, Star Fox: Zero and Other M.

That's an extreme bit of over generalisation and, had you made such a comment in either the Playstation or Xbox fora you would have been reported for trolling.
Some, sure, some Nintendo games might be over-rated, but there's an awful lot of stone cold classics in there too, games that have defined genres.

I couldn't get into either Xenoblade Chronicles game, and I've them on Wii, WiiU and New 3DS as well.
I wish I could, but it's just too fiddly!

Legend of Zelda has consistently charted in the top ten, if not at the top spot, of Best Games of All Time charts, and not just internet lists, but in legit multiplatform press.

Currently playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and, Man, I dunno...

Well Prince of Persia doesn't give you anywhere to wander off to, so the time limit is more about punishing failure than focussing you on a task.

The Heist had a limit too, but in the same way it was more of an exercising in abstracting the traditional video game "lives" structure.

But...eh.... Majora's Mask? An open world to explore and a tight time limit to do it in before it's all destroyed, and - within reason - that timelimit is enforced.

Is there any story based game that is time sensitive? Think all allow you to go wandering off mission or take your time. Think the original Prince of Persia is the only one i remember.

As much as I'm loving BotW, there is always that nagging feeling at the back of my head that I should get on with saving the world, which I usually quash with a brief "aaaaah **** her! What's on the other side of this hill?" which I possibly wouldn't do if the story was stronger or better acted? But then, a more urgent narrative wouldn't fit with such a vast game who's primary joy is in meandering and finding every tiny little hidden nugget of fun. Which is now, in an unrelated note, my new favourite euphemism for the clitoris. Wait, is that the subtext of BotW? It's a feminist educational tool for teenage boys? The joy is in the journey and the exploration, if you rush to drive your master sword into the source of all calamity it'll be over too quickly and everyone will be left disappointed? Use vibration and hunt for shrines for a while first! Source of Calamity... the mrs is going to love me calling it that...

Sorry, I had a point but I forget what it was. Yeah - plot. Was BotW's biggest failing that they tried to put a focused and linear narrative structure onto something that really should have been open ended?
