40s. Where to socialise at night and have fun?

A few friends are heading down for a weekend to Cork very soon. Love the city and the mega friendly people by the way!

Anyhow where can a small group of men in their 40s socialise at night and actually end up enjoying the night?

Looking for somewhere we're not going to feel out of place. Although we're all very young at heart and don't want somewhere dead either and up for a good old night of fun!

Perhaps a place with a mixed aged crowd would be best.

Any suggestions?

(Ps the only place I can vaguely remember is the Old Oak!)

Would recommend An Brog, Reardons, Crane Lane, Coughlans, Fionnbarras. Last 2 are near each other in Douglas street.

We're down Friday and Saturday night.
I presume some places are best on a Friday and others on a Saturday?
Any advice of that aspect?

Also can anyone offer a possible plan for a day evening and then night of drinking?
Eg during the day go to A, B or C
Evening time go D E or F
Night time try G, H or I.

Basically if we're not enjoying one place we know where to move to next.

Is there a main area or street where the best pubs are concentrated?

What pubs have late night license?

Finally what nightclubs would you recommend if we're so inclined?

There's few areas with good concentrations of pubs, Washington Street/North Main Street, Oliver Plunkett Street, MacCurtain Street, Barrack Street. I usually go to Douglas Street, Fionbarra and Coughlans as mentioned above are well recommended. Early in the day I'd recommend going to the Franciscan Well on North Mall and move onto Popes Quay to the Bierhaus and then Devonshire Street to Coburg Street. There's some excellent bars around there.

The wife and myself, both in our 40ies are regular visitors to Cork. It's a fantastic City to go out in. We get down there at least once every 6-8 weeks, there's a constant stream of new bars and restaurants opening. Cork is booming.
A few of my favourite spots Goldbergs, The Woodford, Crane Lane, Electric Bar, the newly opened Cask.
A spot for a pint during the day - would suggest the Woodford or Crane Lane, Food in Bunsen or Boojum.
Nights head to Cask or Electric or James St( can't remember the full name)
Piano Bar in Rachels place on Washington St is a nice place for a Cocktail or 3.
Can't wait to get down there again in a couple of weeks time.

Cask if you like wine and cocktails.
Bierhaus (love that place) or Franciscan Well for nice beers.
The Shelbourne for a great whiskey menu.
Mutton Lane.
Brass Monkey on Douglas Street is supposed to be nice, although I have never been.

Deep South for sausages and huge beer garden if youre lucky enough to get some sun.

I'm terrible for remembering late bars, but I know Vicarstown and BDSM on North Main Street are late night. Although maybe a younger crowd. Crane Lane is always a good bet for late night. I have a soft spot for The Bowery too, especially with the revamped rooftop.

I'm surprised that the Oliver Plunkett hasn't been mentioned. (Late bar as well..)
Live music seven nights a week on two floors and a good mixed crowd. it can get fairly packed though.
In the immediate area you also have the Oak (which I don't personally like) The Ovens, Counihans, The Long Valley, The Hi-B and Crane Lane all within a few yards of each other. And a Pizza joint !!!

In fairness there's quite a lot of decent pubs in Cork including most of the ones that others have mentioned. There's a new place opening where the Boardwalk was as well shortly so that will add to the Goldbergs up to the Clarion stretch as well.

(i'd stay away from the old oak though, just a personal preference!!)

my pulling days are long behind me, not even a decent wing man anymore.
the only place where the ladeez dont find me repulsive seems to be the Crane Lane. A chap might find it a target rich environment
