Blue Insurance were doing 2 year policies on cars under 4 years old .I believe this was/is their ONLY business model at least back then .All this stuff can be put under the new catch all heading of 'The rich get richer and the poor get poorer '

They must offer you insurance if you are an existing customer I believe. But if you are a new customer they load it up. It's the nail in the coffin for a lot of perfectly servicable cars. Well done insurance industry cartel.

Definitely not all insurers are willing to quote, but I would advise checking with liberty, chill and the AA before assuming that nobody will quote (I got quotes off all three a week ago on a 03 car)

It's been going this way for a few years. I love driving old cars and I wanted to get away from cars with a lot of electronics and computery bits. I went from a brand new car to a 96 or 97 (am I the only one who doesn't memorise her license plate number?) and my insurance was cheaper on the older car

I do worry that the day will come when they won't insure her. I'm no longer in a position to drive new cars and even cars from 2000-2010 are too new for my liking. If it's NCT'd that should be sufficient proof of roadworthiness.

My car is well over 10 years old and though I don't have my pick and choice of insurers, I do have insurance. Even though I have allowed my vehicle age to increase (i.e. by not replacing my wheels) my insurance has only increased by 200% since 2012, well below what a lot of people experienced in the years since then.

It's not just the vehicles age - full vs learner license, length of license held, length of NCB, convictions or lack thereof etc will all have an effect.

I would suggest the OP to go shop around for quotes. All other things being OK you will get one.

Recently bought a 17 year old motor to use as a spare when my daily driver is in the garage (a regular problem until 2 weeks ago)

Anyhow, i transferred my insurance onto it with no questions whatsoever.

It is nearly a decade older than what i already have,less mileage also plus it just passed the NCT, and they insured it.

Insurance is far cheaper in the UK too...sometimes this little babana republic depresses me. The corrupt elite in this country will not have to worry about insuring cars over 10 years old. Never saw them in a car over 10 years old.

My car is 11 years old and just reinsured it. Okay so it was up 40% on last year, to €690 fully comp. FBD wanted over a €1000 for 3rd party fire and theft, told me won't insure over 12 years old, am guessing that is just to new customers.

More I think about it, more I believe that the show rooms and the insurance companies are in it together to encourage people to buy new cars.

There was only 1 or 2 that were coming down to the 10 year rule, it was mostly 15, AXA have a great deal for new customers was offered €630 comprehensive on a 01 however note everyone else was like 1200.

It was 700 third party last year with Liberty and never a point or claim. This car has been with Liberty for 6 years so not a banger just bought that might worry them it's for a staged claim.

The renewal was 2700, yes over 2000 increase AKA we are quoting to cover ourselves but we know you won't take it.

Whatever about 15 year old cars if they all reduce it to 10, it's over.

I've said it before the amount of people driving 10-15 year old cars is large and not just low income. You have a lot of people like accountants who have big mortgages and a few kids to look after

I'm telling you, if it goes to 10 your gonna have the Government scratching their heads wondering why a ton of people will be back on dole cause they can't afford a car to go to work.

Then you'll have the massive explosion in uninsured drivers and you know what, with what's been done I honestly can't blame em if it's a hard pressed family or individual
