To be fair its better that the old system where a team could lose once and be gone full stop, tbh I think minor should like U21 be straight knockout full stop.

depends on what you think minor grade is for, winning titles or giving players a chance to develop as county players

When it changes to U17 then fine have more games, as the players will no longer be playing with their adult club teams but under the current system it is absolutely crazy. My own club recently had a young lad who between club, school and county was on 13 teams in total, absolutely crazy.

It's insane. The 'elite' player has far too many games and will almost certainly suffer from burn out in his mid 20s. The non-elite player gets far fewer games and thus hasn't near the opportunity to develop.

Did i hear the Barrs didnt score in the second half yesterday v Ballymartle? Jesus they're an absolute pity, especially after the whole football thing going on there recently.

Big win for a seemingly understrength Imokilly. 1 or 2 lads missing by the looks of it. Bishopstown flatter to deceive most years, i dont think they're up to much. UCC will be a better test in the next round

The glen dodged a banana skin getting past Bride Rovers, racking up a nice score.

Few games down for decision today including a college double header in Pairc Ui Rinn. Douglas CIT i suppose the pick of a bad bunch overall today. Cant see CIT getting close however

Looking forward to the ladies game at 4 on tg4, should be a good game, will probably be more entertaining than arsenal v Utd

Ref in the ladies game worries me. He has already given about 3 frees for Donegal that were never frees but Cork have just got a second goal!

Ref is a bit on the ridiculous side. Cork doing well and should hopefully push on in the second half to win by about 3

Most enjoyable game. Corks ball winning ability from kickouts a major plus for Cork.

Orla Finn had a super game. Ref was awful I thought, although the yellow and red for Donegal in the last 2 mins were simply out of frustration.

Congrats to the Cork Ladies.Orla Finn was amazing.

Either way the result would have went, that ref is terrible. Ladies Football deserves better refs. He could not keep up with play as he was too big and gave awful decisions both ways.

Even with the awful ref as he was awful to both teams, Donegal have no one to blame but themselves.

It was 2-12 each and they had about 3 to 4 wides when they should have been put over.

The womens games are always great entertainment!

Donegal should have won it, kicked a number of bad wides. Ref was poor, gave some weird frees at times, but right with the yellow as had previously warned her, and with the red which was dangerous on O Shea.

For a team with no Brid Stack (injured), Briege Corkery and Rena Buckley (tbc if they are coming back), Deidre O Reilly and Val Mulcahy (retirement), Ger O Flynn, a lot of players stood up and were counted. After the hammering against Donegal during the round robin, it was a great response - the blocking at times was superb. Great save by Martina when 1 on 1 - really good day at the office, some lightening quick handling made a huge difference

I was at Coachford today to see Avondhu v Carbery and Ballyhea v Newcestown.

The first game was a joke. Credit to the Avondhu and Carbery players that did turn up. Avondhu had only the bare 15, made up of Junior hurlers and a few intermediates thrown in. This is not the first time I've given out about Avondhu and other divisions. If there's no serious effort being made by a division from the start of the year, they should not be entering. I don't think scrapping the divisions is a good idea either as it wouldn't be fair on the likes of Imokilly, CIT etc. Same with Duhallow and Avondhu in football. I blame the divisional boards and their attitude towards it. Players should be proud to be able to represent their divisions in the senior championship as was the case before. But the divisions need to bring in proper managements, set up etc. The interest might come back then. But again credit to both Divisional teams today who still hurled and battled away.

Ballyhea and Newcestown was on after and it felt like a different grade altogether. Scrappy hurling at times but the intensity and tough tackling was brilliant by both teams. An enjoyable tight affair with nothing separating the sides. Newcestown got a 3 point lead with 10 minutes to go, but Trevor Horgan (I think) got sent off, two yellows. Pa O'Callaghan who definitely looked injured, (I heard he played soccer this morning too) struggled through the game, but got the all important goal to put the game to extra time. Newcestown again were on top in extra time, created a 7 point lead with only 5 minutes left. Ballyhea sub Sean O'Kelly banged 2 quick goals. Luke Meade (who played excellently finishing with about 6 points) scored what looked to be the winning point. But Ballyhea won a free about 70 metres out over by the sideline. Credit to Pa Callaghan for putting it straight over with the last puck. Draw overall was the fair result, 1-20 to 3-14.
