Problem with my Dacia Duster - advice

Hi

Bought a 162 Dacia Duster last July.

After about a month I had a problem with the gear box. It wouldn't go into gear at all. Got AA out - got it working - drove away.

Brought to Main dealer I bought from - They checked and nothing could be found.

Next day driving to work and gearbox gradually seize up as the journey progresses. Get AA out again. Guy pumps the cluthch and gets it started. Says that is a problem with cylinder(?) - There is a leak and it is getting airlocked and thats why it won't go into gear.

I drive over to main dealer - explain what he said - they take it in for few days and say he was correct and that it is now fixed. Say they have seen this problem only once before.

No problems since but yesterday - exact same thing happened - couldn't get in gear - pumped clutch and it's running again.

I'm bringing back to them but my question is am I within my rights to ask for a replacement vehicle for this dacia - I'm not confident anymore that it is 100% and would like a new one (not 171 but just the same 162)

Advice? I've never had a new car before so not sure were I stand.

You are not in position to reject the car, they have only had one attempt to rectify the fault. The car is under warranty and Dacia will get to the bottom of it. Annoying that it has re-occurred but it happens. At least request a courtesy car while they sort it out.

Thanks - Yeah we have the courtesy car alright - no problem there.

Just wondering how many times should i reasonably allow them to try and fix it?

See how they get on this time, but as long as they are trying to solve it that is all you can hope for. They are not a complex car and use well proven parts.

Probably best not to let the AA fix it, rather tow it to the nearest dealer when it broken so they can have a look then

There is nothing written in stone about the number of times you get a refund at.
Dealer have the options repair, replace or refund.

We had a brand new car that was sent back several times. As far as I know we don't have lemon laws here like in America. You can keep sending it back until it's fixed but they'll never hand you a new car because they're not required to and it'll always be cheaper to keep trying to fix yours

Hopefully they will sort it - leaving it in tomorrow and they are going to look at it asap.

Plenty of people have gotten new cars here. You just need to be either patient or pig headed.

The repair has to be permanent, so the same issue again increases the chance of replacement.

Problem with modern cars is that the diagnostics doesn't always give the right problem and some mechanics don't have enough experience for fault finding. So the car could be saying x is wrong when it's y that's causing the issue, but the mechanic keeps working on x and can't find or even look for y.

No diagnostics will tell you if air is in a clutch system, faulty slave or master.

just have the cover and if it can't be started they will tow to the garage - I get it free with the car and have on my insurance as well.

If i didn't have it - they would be collecting it alright!!

so still waiting on them checking it out - The problem with it last time was that they had to replace the clutch Master Cylinder - Is that an unusual thing to have to replace on a new vehicle or dacia's in general?

I was told it was unusual at the time but I don't know any better!!:)

I had the same failure on a brand new Passat. Parts fail, even new ones.

I have had an accident with my Dacia Duster I have been in touch with a repair centre and a main dealer and also dacia customer service. I have been told that the part for my car is not available, a drivers door, and that another person is waiting on the same part since March. Dacia can give me no date as to when the part is due.
i have had no solution from Dacia customer service apart from they are waiting on updates regarding partsMy view is that I am the customer and I am suffering because of lack of supply chain management by Dacia,

i hear ya Doltanian, i will be selling as soon as i am sorted. bear1 irrespective of whether your opinion of my view it is terrible customer service and a customer relations nightmare. I will be telling everyone to avoid them at all costs!

As for the person with the issue a new thread might be a better idea.

Is it the repair centre having the issue getting the door or is the car being repaired by a Dacia main dealer. A main dealer may be able to get them quicker. I'd contact Dacia customer service directly and follow up with this. It does happen but I wouldn't consider it acceptable.

have already been onto Dacia customer service, perhaps new thread is appropriate however felt it related to reasonableness and timeliness of solution and dealing with dacia in general. Dacia cannot tell when they will get the part to linders chapelizod who are the main dealer supplying my repair garage

Have you asked for a courtesy car while you wait for tue parts, if it is keeping yours off the road.

I had a Duster for 3 years. Not a single problem to be had

I have a 161 Captur top spec

So far:

Electric window mechanism broke

Touchscreen Blew

Speakers stopped working

I'm the same - been to dacia direct, management in garage i bought, simi complaints and consumer protection and I've come to the conclusion that it's a waste of time.

The one thing I have learned is that as far as I can see there is absolutley no regulation of the motor industry - Most industries have an ombudsman you can go to but not in the motor industry - Am I right that it is completely self regulated?

Garage are trying to do that but that is not an exact science as its a wait and see game.

These are the sole two complaints I've seen on boards regarding Dacia, perhaps there are more but it seems a very small number considering the numbers on Irish roads.

My friend and his wife are on their second Duster & Logan each and nothin but praise, yes the Logan is basic and the "plain Jane" of the motoring world, but a sub ?13k new family sized car with 100,000km 3 year warranty isn't to be sneezed at. It's affordable to change both vehicles every three years so for reasonable money they are both driving cars in full warranty.

Comparing them to Lada of old shows the lack of understanding people have for either Dacia or Lada.
