Croagh Patrick

Quick question. Me and a few of the lads are planning on climbing croagh Patrick over the summer. From what I can read online theres about 2 thirds of it that is simply a hike. The last 3rd is the tough part. Question - Is there just 1 path or is there a longer less steep approach to the summit. Have some knee problems so working out if im going to do the full thing or maybe the 2 thirds

First 2/3 are a bit more than an average 'hike' also. Not great for dodgy knees. The back way up is less steep

Quick answer: Either do Croagh Patrick as it's there to be done or don't bother doing it at all.

I've been up a couple of times and have a dodgy knee and ankle. I climbed it with a lady who had cancer and she wasn't long away from Chemo. She did the 2/3rds and the rest of us went to the top. Last third is like climbing a stoney ladder. The biggest obstacles are other people.

In your position I would do the 2/3rds and see how you feel after that.

Plenty of other dodgy joints on the mountain at the same time.

Cheers. That's the plan im going for. Im just over a knee ligament injury, Id have no problem going up, its the coming down Id feel dodgy about.

Op it was torture on the knees on the way down in my experience(plus other joints aswell)
