Today I did some detailing...

As promised :P

I've said it here before but the alloys on my car were covered in whiteworm before I bought it. All 4 refurbed when I got it.

Using wheel brushes on diamond cut alloys can create tiny chips/marks and water then gets underneath. Bilt Hamber AutoWheel has been a 100% touchless wheel wash for me since I started using it (when I had the 335) and continues to be so. I wouldn't be without it, I even buy it in 5 Ltr drum from that crowd who are in the process of moving warehouses

Mind me asking how much a wheel they set you back. Want to get mine done over the summer.

The dealer had them done for me after we agreed a price for the car so I'm not sure. Rim Solutions charge 110 per wheel for diamond cut wheels.

That sounds alright. Enquired a few places and they seem to be around the 400 mark for the set. One place was 550 though.....

Rim Solutions quoted me €530 for the 313 alloys on my E92 last week which seemed steep?

After battling the cold, wet, wind and damp of the last couple of months, it's was a pleasure to clean the car this weekend in such glorious weather. Gave it a good wash yesterday followed by a fresh coat of Reload and then I threw a layer of OCD Nebula on it this morning. Was a great day for a b-road blast too.

I can't seem to keep tar off the golf. It's silver so any spot shows up instantly. Every other car I had disguises it. Rear boot door is covered in it. Sides too. As a result it never looks fully clean. Polished and sealed over Christmas but the tar was back quick enough. I do fairly big miles so that adds to it. Don't really know the point of this post other than to moan...

A ceramic coating helps massively. When I redid mine I had 10,000 miles of tar on it but it was negligible, it was for the most part washed every week and between that and the coating meant there was very little on it.

Would anyone know how much a detailer would charge for putting a clean and thereafter ceramic coat on a Golf sized car by any chance?

Depends on the condition of the paint really!

The more correction it needs the longer it will take the more it would cost before ceramic application. For a moderately damaged Golf I'd be charging around €400 for wash/decon/tar/correction.

With us given say light scratching:

2-3 Hours Prep`
~8 Hours Polishing
3-4 Hours Coating if something like Gtechniq's CSL and EXO plus glass, tyres etc.
Plus coating cost plus service VAT.

what might that work out at? My car would have the usual swirl marks but thats all the issues I could see

Worst case scenario, I'd be thinking something near 700.

Wife's new car, 7 months old, in and out of the rain all morning doing the wheels, few washes, alloy cleaner, clay bar, iron out and then a wax and tyre dressing, I know I should take the wheel off to get it done properly but not in this weather....

Far cry from detailing, but anyways!

Elderly neighbour took bad about 5 months ago and has been in hospital since, we took his car and kept it at our place. Been sitting in our shed since, covered in dust and bird droppings. Got word that he's coming out in the next week or so, so decided to give it a quick spit polish. 3 out of the 4 tyres are flat and it was mouldy in spots inside. Managed to drive it out a few feet out of the shed. Bodywork is rough, but seeing as it was never polished in the past 3 years, it came up nice. Just need to pump up the wheels, organise the NCT and tax it and it should be ready for road again!

Fresh bottle of Meguiars Gold Class today, NXT Generation lasted me over 2 years. Can't go wrong for the price of it!

Noticed a few tar spots on the car today, it's getting towards that time of year again.

So the vRS hadn't got a wash in close to @ least 6weeks. I'm sorry to say could be more. Use to wash at least once a week no matter what the weather.

So full jet wash top to under and snow foamed then washed using 2bm.

Dried off as I went along as the weather was quite good and plenty of sun.

Came up very well and honestly from all the prep work I done months ago and the protection after has held up extremely well.

I used blacklight and put 2 coats of it and collinite845 on I would guess back around 6 months ago and the shine off it still I'm very pleased with.

Very little tar but can feel a fair bit of contaminant.

Took me a good 2½ hours at least.
