The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

For me, adding the alloys triggers something called "Customized installation" which has "no price available", causing the overall price to disappear. Build it without the alloys and just manually add the cost yourself.

Carbon grey has been discontinued.

There's no price up there yet for the alcantara so that's causing "no price" in the final summary for you too. I'd say the alcantara would be ballpark €900.

Configurator doesn't add in the "delivery charge" either which is €775.

Bizarre that SAFELOCK is available with the alarm but not with the keyless entry and the two (alarm, keyless) are mutually exclusive in the configurator.

I think you need to plug in to use Android Auto or Apple Car Play. I would imagine most people who know what capacitative charging is and have it on their phones would be likely to be plugging in to use one of these features so I can't imagine there will be very many takers for this.

LOL. I think I'll stick with the misery of using my 10 euro usb cable. And Apple don't even support it yet!

The car is getting expensive. I spec'd up an R to roughly my own car's spec and its coming in at about 52.5k. Pretty sure mine would have retailed at around 48.5k ish 18 months ago. 4 grand more!

I see the alacantara seats option is there for the GTI but with no pricing yet. That's what I'd be going for (rather than the cloth or full leather).

They are an option now on the clubsport, but I still wouldn't put them on a "standard" GTI. (and that's coming from someone who put RS alloys on their ST for a decent period of time :P )

It's obviously my own personal opinion though.

Prets are / were an option on the Clubsport and standard on the CS-S. So I think they'd be a nice choice for a standard GTI if you could get them at the right price.

While I see where you guys are coming from in certain instances, I can't say I agree all too much. Now while I think it's difficult to find a style that does suit and complement the newer cars more than in the past, there are certain brands and styles that do suit them nicely.

Personally I think the Austin's aren't that nice of an alloy to begin with and the only ones that are for the performance Golf's are the Pretoria's. But I wouldn't put Prets on a GTI.

Overall it's all about personal taste I guess and we all have our own. That's why my car will be different to others (I hope) and will look the way I want it to. If we all had the same opinion it would be an incredibly boring world (not to mention VAG scene, as they're not exactly out there in design as standard!).

Imho, non-OEM wheels on any new or nearly new premium car such as BMW, Audi, Mercedez Benz, or a VW Golf GTI really diminish it's appearance. Maybe not so much on older models.

THose SR's are quite heavy though, I was tempted by them for quite some time, but would go more for the CI-R's now if I wanted that design.

The CH-R's are also just lovely and always look great.

None of these wheels are too forgiving on potholes. I've knocked chips out of previous alloys (18's) on potholes.
Touch wood, my prets are still round and unmarked.

As JoeA3 said, I think you'd be wiser to hang onto your OEM wheels for trade-in time. The dealer will be happier and the tyres should have plenty of healthy tread left on them.

You might gain in trade-in value whatever money you might have got for selling them on.

If possible, hold onto them and put them back on the car again when you're trading it on. I think most prospective buyers / dealers would prefer to see it on its original wheels.

Whether they are forged is unknown and they don't give an idea of their weight either. It's another option though for a GTi if VW Ireland can get them in for you at that price point.
