I'd never buy hardware from CEX after seeing them checking out a guys DSLR camera to buy, taking off the lens and peering into where the sensor is while eating toast!
Let them sell the games, but for the love jebus don't let them touch the carts with a screwdriver/soldering iron/hammer.

UK Cex started repairs for consoles I think it included retro ones because it was a retro FB group. I think it was 35/45 no fix no fee. I wonder if they're gonna offer it here.

Not a retro question as such but maybe you guys can help me out as I cant find an answer on Google.

The game discs for current gen consoles, will we be still able to play them in the future if you have a brand new disc as I belive most new game require updates when you first use them?

Basically what Im asking is if I have a brand new xbox one game will it be still usable in 10 years time?

It will in theory but some games have massive day one patches. The new Tony hawks is a good example, without the patch it's essentially a glorified demo. That's assuming the network will go down in ten years time, which it probably will

Whether a patch is needed or not I'd be more concerned about finding a working console to play them on in ten years time.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, so basically the current gen will be unusable to a degree in the future when support for them has ended.

Just a quick Q, what is the going price of a yellow automobile ps2 + controller?

I caved in and bought PSVR today!
Managed to get it for €300 second hand with the camera and a move controller.

I feel it completes my Racing Sim setup, Dirt Rally is much easier with it, you can see when the car drifts faster allowing you to use opposite lock faster to recover.

I didnt get too much a sensation of speed though, ill have to try the group B cars tomorrow and see, it may be due to it running at 60hz instead of true 120hz.

Rez Infinite and Trackmania gave a great sensation of speed however.

Seeing my elderly relatives being absolutely blown away by Ocean Descent made me feel proud of Sony's accomplishment, its rare i feel proud of a product! That and the fact they've sold almost 1 million units giving VR a brighter future.

One thing that surprised me is that non VR games like Wolfenstein The New Order feel really immersive also.

Im absolutely knackered now though, probably a combination of VR and staying up late the last few nights researching it.

Is there a killer title for the psvr yet? I've been tempted since it was announced but I just don't trust Sony when it comes to supporting their additional hardware

That's not really a whole lot and certainly not a lot to keep it supported considering the holiday season has just gone. The fact Sony were cagey about releasing sales figures for it as well as the PS4 Pro seems to hint that sales are well below expectations and Sony have been known to throw out shipped and not sold through figures when a product line is under performing. It will be interesting to see if Sony keeps supporting it or drops it like 3D TV support.

Well you had it pegged it as a "32X" like disaster, i think its clearly surpassed that and considering what it is the sales figures are decent imo.

Time will tell if it loses it's momentum and gets abondoned.

It's still not out of the woods yet as a 32X disaster. The 32X was selling to a much smaller userbase and sold really well on the first holiday. Interest dropped right off afterwards.

Kind of hoping it tanks. Can't justify the price to play Rez but if it is cheap I'll snap one up with Rez, love that game and heard it's incredible in VR ☺

VR unfortunately suffers from virtual boy syndrome. It's an incredible piece of tech but it's hard to demonstrate without actually using it and some people have a thing about looking silly with a headset.

While a million sales seems like a good thing the real test is what the device will sell like once stock is plentiful.
Any game for the system is only ever going to sell to a percentage of that, meaning the return on the necessary investment to make a VR game, or even a VR mode in a existing game, is going to be expensive and limit resources to be spent on games with no such display requirement. This means that Sony are going to have to subsidise every PSVR games, unless it's an indie title.
And that road, if sales don't continue at launch levels, means that the PSVR winds up this generation's very expensive Mega CD/32X/Kinect.

As much as I love the idea of VR, I really just don't think it's a home console add on.

When you start wearing and using complex peripherals you're really into the realm of the PC. I couldn't see myself sitting down in the sitting room in front of the TV/PS4 and putting a headset on. It just seems like a level of commitment to an experience that you don't usually associate with consoles.

My question now is, will Nintendo come out of the noon sun, unseen and dazzling with some mental VR solution no one considered?
I mean, if you move away from the need to have virtual environments to be near photoreal, does the Switch have the horses to run Rez Infinite or Thumper, two games that are simply the best yet on the Sony format at least?

I guess you're so used to the Rift it gives you the perception that it's not a console thing.

PSVR being the first headset I owned, I have the opposite view though, it feels right at home on console.

Playing Dirt Rally again today I was getting up to 26 second leads over the fastest computer opponent that I couldn't get without VR!

I ended up buying a Peugeot 205 T16 EVO 2 as my second car with championship earnings and boy what an arm wrestle it is trying to control the speed of that thing!

Probably a bad idea to buy a group b car as my second car! Going to take weeks to master its power.

In the end, they are all just too big and bulky for true long term enjoyment. I've only used the PSVR for about 5 mins, its good, but too bulky like the rift and vive(which i have both of).

For me, its AR, not VR that will bring the masses in. Time will tell i guess, but I really want nice and light AR glasses, not VR.

I think what was once the gulf between what a console was, and what a pc was, is fast breaking down. Most consoles seem to be x86 based these days, bringing them much further in line with pc's than the bespoke hardware they used to implement. That, and the likes of m-itx motherboards on the pc market bring actual pc's to be much more physically in line with what a console is in terms of size and appearance. I built a m-itx pc there for Christmas and it blew me away in terms of how small it is, I'll never go near a full sized ATX board again for a gaming rig.

Not my pic, but I used this case (Silverstone SUGO SG13b), and in it I've an i5 6600k and a GTX 1070 - which means it can run games at 1440p, 60+fps, all at Ultra settings...and at the same time take up less real estate than a PS4 or Xbox One.

That said, any hype here for Ryzen? Steve, you planning a build at all?

Edit - It seems Intel > AMD for gaming once again unfortunately for Ryzen
