Official Conor McGregor thread (part 3) *Updated Warning in 1st Post Re:Boxing match

The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 3.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.

Any name-calling, trolling, baiting, or being a general ass-hat will earn you a ban from the thread and possibly the forum.

Any "Do you even train Bro?" or "I'm an mma fan longer than you" type posts are not permitted either. They only make you look like a fool and as a result, everyone hates you. Yes everyone.

Lads consider this the one and only warning - big fight with a lot of hype around it. It brings new fans to the forum as well as the regulars so try and get along. Any trolling or nonsense and people will find themselves on a break from the forum and that applies to everyone.

I don't get why people think this. The Mosley punch that rocked him was probably the hardest Floyd ever took and it couldn't put him down. I don't see how an absolute novice in relative boxing terms is going to do better than that.

Connor has forgotten what it feels like to be living on government hand outs. Charging people 100 quid to go and see him for a few minutes at a dinner. He has forgotten very quickly which queue he was propping up a few years ago.

Sick of him now. I have friends on the dole who supported him all around Ireland and they all feel he has lost touch of the person he was when he was standing in the dole queue behind them begging for money.

Because punching power has nothing to do with boxing ability*. We all know Conor has power, the skill to land it on Floyd is another thing. I believe that if the fight goes ahead, there is a real chance that Conor could get severely embarrassed.

But I also think that if Conor can land 1 good shot, then he could put him away.

(When I say 'boxing ability' I mean you don't have to be a world class professional boxer to hit hard)

Any random lad in an arcade can take a running swing at a punch machine and rack up a huge score. Doing it wearing gloves, up close with an elite boxer has everything to do with boxing ability and technique. Floyd has been hit in his career by better, harder, more precise punchers than McGregor could ever hope to be.

Floyd has a full time assistant for his hands alone hes made of brittle, 40 years of age hasnt trained in a year or more, easier fight for McGregor than his last bout at 205.

The point you made was that if Mosley couldn't drop Mayweather, then why would Conor be able to.

Boxing history is filled with people who went through wars, took countless hard shots from big punchers and didn't drop, and then went out and ko'd by some bum.

Honestly I don't know what to say about your running arcade comment, the less the better I reckon.

Its baffling that people believe that Conor has a chance against Floyd. Does he have the power to knock Floyd out? Absolutely. Will he be able to land that shot? Floyd is probably the best defensive boxer we've ever seen. His entire life has been boxing. The gulf between being an elite professional boxer and somebody who punches well is enormous. I think that people who aren't familiar with the nuances of the sweet science underestimate the skill of an elite boxer

I'd argue the exact opposite.

He lives on his chin in a lot of fights up until the first Nate defeat. He ate a load of shots against Chad and I didn't see him wobble once in that fight.

Nate was the first person to wobble his legs and that was with a clean shot down the pipe that would have dropped a lot of fighters.

Obviously Floyd can knock him out but I would never say Conor's chin is a glaring weakness. The evidence backs up otherwise - he gets hit in nearly every fight and we've only seen him hurt once.

I'd agree with you Cletus. The chance of Conor winning would be extremely slim.

I'd never claim that Conor is in an way close to being an elite level boxer. But he can punch. And hard. The only way for him to win would be to land that crisp clean shot. But whether he could do that, is another question.

I'd agree he has an over whelming chance of being embarrassed given the evidence. Two things make me not so certain this is the case though given two things, A; we havent seen floyd box in the guts of two years and B; we have never seen Conor box. Heard a lot of lads saying floyd keeps fit and all this but has he kept boxing fit? Can you really say Conor is a bad boxer based on mma fights and two heavily edited clips? Is an elite mma striker really at as much of a disadvantage as we think? This is what irks me about all the ''joke of a fight'' comments. When you leave your biases aside whichever side you lean on its actually a pretty intriguing fight. Sure floyd might put on a clinic and mcgregor might punch air for 12 rounds but it could very well go differently, no-one really knows!

Puncher's Chance. In sports, and most specifically boxing, to have a “puncher's chance” means that the person or team may not be the favorite to win a championship, but it could happen if the favorite isn't careful. The puncher has the ability to land a knockout blow.

Of course nobody knows, thats why fights get made. Given the likely ruleset if the fight goes ahead, though, and knowing the two players involved, we can make some fairly sound assumptions. McGregor 'might' land a knockout blow, but to be convinced that he is too big, too fast, and the Floyd is to old, or cant inflictdamamge on McGregor, is foolish IMO

Manny would put a lot more hurt on Conor, that's for sure. Probably a more winnable fight, but his chances would still be very very slim.

To be fair if you're good at something don't do it for free. People are obviously willing to part with 100 quid to see him, so charging that amount is fair game.

In charity donations alone he has paid the money back he ''took'' about 10 times over, im sure hes paying plenty of tax too.
