What's going on at Quinn's Cross Roundabout?

Hi all,

Anybody know what is going on with the redevelopment works at Quinn's Cross Roundabout? (between Russell's bar & Mungret)

I drove through it the other day and it seems that they are making a roundabout that was barely able to facilitate existing traffic flows even worse! For example only 1 lane leading on to the roundabout from the Father Russell Road side & making the roundabout itself even smaller

Not only it it already causing massive tailbacks in the area but it seems like a complete waste of public money.

Twould be easy enough to do it too. Drive slowly around the roundabout, have the window down and then toss out a few plastic ducks to float around... road workers would never notice as far as I can see..

so i came out the n69 after training again and the kerbing is down for the islands in the middle of the n69 for the traffic lights.....for a road with a lot of hgv traffic its gonna be a bit tight!

I saw one person working with cabling under the footpath as you turn up Fr. Russel road on Monday.
Still no sign of anyone sorting out the road surface though, absolute disgrace!

Have to say I'm kind of fond of the road surface now, it's like being momentarily transported to Baghdad when you come off or enter the Fr Russell Road

That "fr Russel road on to roundabout" surface is a joke though.

They have in some parts of the city, would love if they rolled them out across the board. They give off way more light than the yellow ones.

They will be quickly enough. They use a lot less electrical power.

Any idea when this thing is going to be finished? I pass through this roundabout twice a day, 9am and 6pm, and haven't seen anyone work on it in months.

Whole thing is a mess. 2 lane roundabout reduced to 1.5 lanes, a traffic cone convering some obstacle at the side of the road on the inside of the roundabout, zero attempt to level the join between the existing road and the new roundabout, and someone realising late in the day that the high curbs might be a problem so they dumped piles of tarmac to create little ramps. And this after around 6 months of "work".

passed through here at weekend for first time since early October - how did they get away with leaving the job so unfinished ? Totally shoddy connections from existing roads to the new road surface. I was driving but would regularly cycle that area in the summer - I have no optimism it'll be any better by summer

The council, on behalf of John Q Taxpayer, is the customer here.

If the contractor feels they are ok in leaving the roundabout in the state it's in the the council are 100% responsible.

Instead of posting here we should be giving our local councillors an earful over this.

Normally a contract of this sort would ensue penalties if the job is not completed within the agreed time frame. I wouldn't be surprised if this hold up is funding related. Would not be the first time where money wasn't fully available to finish a job like this.

So we can expect 3 weeks of long delays according to the digital display sign that has been missing for the last 7-8 months of random, unexpected and seriously uncoordinated long delays......lovely.

Eye got stuck there the other morning while i was taking the mother to the regional. Tis some crack now, installing drains..i assume they are going to raise the roads to meet them eventually. Also the footpaths and cycle lanes over by the cement factory are huge!

I'm interested to see how much of a tail back the lights on the cement factory side will make in the mornings when they are turned on.

Was on to the council and they said final resurfacing it due to start and should be complete by March. I won't hold my breath though.

you got a response.

I asked them would there be any chance of them fixing the road crossings on the N69 which have sunk and got no response.

Good to know. I saw the digital signage but didn't spot just how long they were going to be working there.

You would fit a mid sized car in both directions on them.

The seem to have completely forgotten what transits the N69. I cant wait to see a few lads transporting wind turbines from foynes try and fit through the lights at the cement factory.

This is a good one!

I heard they had traffic lights in place yesterday on the quins cross to mungret village road. One light either side of the entrance up to the new Park and where the existing school is, and I guess the crèche was caught up in it too... no extra control of this traffic so it was all backing up in there until somebody would get frustrated and just bull their way out against the lights.

Cue Mexican stand off as one side or another finally gets green and goes and then meets a load of frustrated parents desperately trying to get out of the college driveway.

Amateurish. Negligent. How would you NOT take the school traffic into account when doing something like this? Gonna be a lot of craziness there if this will a be a feature for 3 weeks!

They're putting lights on the N69 & Moore's Rd junction. Needless in my view but will cause terrible traffic congestion at peak times. Thankfully, I generally only use it off peak.

The road from Quinn's Cross roundabout to Mungret has become far too narrow. Two average-sized cars can barely pass without yielding or slowing down.

The footpaths and cycle lanes are enormous. It's great that cyclists and pedestrians have facilities; however the width is excessive.
