For me, it was all Amstrad and Speccy(and later on C64 and Amiga). My cousin had a NES and that was my only experience with it until the 90's.
I'm quite glad to be honest, I wouldnt have the skillset and interests I do today without all those home computers sparking my interest in the 80's and 90's.

Although, I might not need glasses now if i didnt have the Amstrad CPC green screen of blindness back in the day

I was pretty lucky in that my cousin's family were fairly well off so he'd tonnes of videogame stuff over the years.

They bought him a NES in either 89/90 so I'd a lot of exposure to Nintendo's output from around then.

Had an Amstrad 6128 before getting a NES in 1992 I think. While I remember Santa Claus getting the credit, I seem to remember the NES Action Sets were being sold for £99.99 in Quinnsworth that year.

I think Christmas 1994 was when the Mario 3 bundle was offloaded for less than £50 and a lot of people got into Nintendo then.

Speaking of the Amstrad though, does anyone remember this game?

I loved it at the time. I wonder if anyone ever took the concept and made an update more recently?

I had one friend with a NES and by the time he had one I had a Megadrive. I think I was destined to be a retro game lover because instead of slagging off his inferior system I'd call over and play the **** out of mario, Simons quest and megaman 2.

Nintendo only really started to push the nes hard from mario 3 and right up to Kirby adventure in 93 and 94 with tv ads. By then it was a budget machine and Nintendo cartoons like captain n were on tv. Even though the games were outrageously expensive compared to my C64 you could tell they were of a way better quality than most home computer software. Only a few games like the awesome C64 version of bubble bobble could match them.

I also loved the c64 version of rodland. Always wondered why it's not as highly regarded but it never got a popular port outside of the home micros

The first bit of retro collecting I ever did was buy my mates nes from him around 95 so he could buy a ps1.

£30 well spent! Although it was a little knackered as he was known for having a short temper and flinging it around the place in a Mario 3 enduced rage :pac:

Loved my C64 and System 3 games, they always looked amazing. Midnight Resistance was another favorite of mine.

I was upgrading along with the new releases right up to the sale of my launch Dreamcast to a guy who didn't have the money to pay for it.
In the end he gave me a Saturn and an N64, along with a few bob, and the rest was history.
Since then they've accrued in my gamesroom, joining the pile!

They were like the Konami of the C64, you were always guaranteed a great game what was a technical masterpiece for the system.

One of my favourite games by then was turbo charge. Wonderful SCI/Chase HQ type game.

Yep, have good memories of Turbo Charge, fav game was Vendetta, the intro blew my mind back then.

In all my time of playing c64 games I never even heard of turbocharge!

Seems decent. My favourite street / road racers on the system were Turbo Outrun, and Chase. HQ 2 S.C.I.

Funny how both of their predcessors were tripe in comparison.

It was too bloody hard alright! My german friend had to use a walkthroughh guide in a games magazine to complete it.

My favourite was LN2, what an adventure that game was! Being able to interact so much with your environment and figure out how to get passed things was great gameplay.

I remember being amazed at being able to walk on the outside ledge of a skycraper and jump aboard a helicopter at the time, it was mind blowing.

Nowadays we take all that for granted!

Its certainly my favourite 8-bit soundtrack of all time, gets really atmospheric too in the sewer levels especially.

Did you check out the original composer - Matt Gray's reformation kickstarter?

He did a complete remake of LN2 and other soundtracks, as well as made some new SID tunes.

No they're still as indie as ever! Check out their website to see the games they brought out the last few years.

I love Ashens! ,and yeah he knows the score when it comes to the UK/Ireland 80's gaming scene.
The coolest thing I got to do when I was doing the retrounlim livestreams was one that he was on (he's also genuinely nice guy and REALLY knows his retro , its a pity that he does the poundland tat/old food videos mostly(even though the're great) as the ones where he covers retro ,like his current lynx ones are so good.

So guys with the Star Wars humble bundle offering some retro games, how does X-Wing Alliance and X-Wing VS Tie Fighter stack up?

X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter is multiplayer only with some standalone single player missions, the expansion added a campaign which is ok.

Alliance is meant to be great but I only ever watched a friend play it, I was out of the PC gaming scene at the time. It's meant to not be as good as Tie Fighter but that game is still incredible to this day despite the janky graphics. Unfortunately Alliance ends on an unresolved cliffhanger.

I tell you what though, time has not been kind to Shadows of the Empire. It's a pile of pish and even the much talked about hoth level at the time is pants.

X Wing Alliance and Tie Fighter are still great games.
I played a good deal of the former and it was outstanding.
In the pre prequel Star Wars world there was some great story telling, and a fearlessness about messing with canon.
Tie Fighter is just sublime.

Anyone with a Framemeister ever come across this before?

PS1 via RGB into the XRGB Mini outputting at 720p with scanlines on (everything is default with regard to settings). There's three uneven scanlines, in the middle of the top and bottom third of the image, and in the middle. Granted, this is the only console I've tried so far so, I've no idea if it's happening with the rest. Just curious if anyone knows about it.

Love X-Wing Alliance, one of my favourite games of all-time. Perfect with an analogue joystick and the texture upgrades from the XWA Upgrade mods.
