Some American import is bound to be cheaper and less risky than something that would take up resources and do well to get above 100k on RTE 2. The wildlife programming seems to do well in the ratings, so maybe aiming towards that. Options of creating a serious quiz show - bring back Blackboard Jungle, Know Your Sport, Where In The World with an updated twist. Perhaps a music show, movie reviews, car shows etc.. All good options. It's lazy to purchase Friends and leave it there for 2 years.

The likes of the Chase and Pointless are sold to ITV and BBC by production companies.

There was that horrendous attempt before of Martin King's Commercial Breakdown. Where they seemed to just cut out whoever was doing it at the time on BBC and slot him in doing things around a house and keep the laughter track on the clips of ads.

However, I thought he should have gotten the Family Fortunes gig over Alan Hughes.

Dancing with Stars and Room to Improve the stand-out RTE One ratings, at nearly 500k for both, First Dates Ireland performing well for Two on 163k. Apart from The Voice on 145k, and Red Rock on 133k, nothing noteworthy outside the soaps for TV3.

Interesting how there replacement for the NTA did well as did the repeat of the NTA.

I expect Tv3 to have a 9% share for Jan, they should have at least 12%

For some strange reason I can't see RTE getting rid of his show. I personally can't stand listening to him never mind looking at him. I suupose if they axe his show they will probably give Marty morrisey or Des cahill their own chat show.For years now RTE seem to be afraid to take a risk and bring in new young talent give them a fair run and see how it pans out instead of sticking to the same over paid untalented clowns like Darcy and now Tommy tiernan.

Going back to last week, The Sun had a piece about Red Rock - saying that it's future looks uncertain.

They did give some ratings though:
7:30 Coronation Street 455,000
8:30 Coronation Street 439,000.
9:00 Red Rock 164,000 (prev week was 153,000)

Think that rating for Red Rock is ok-ish, and the sign that's it's going up is also a positive.

Also there was 350,000 on average in the 9pm to 10pm slot across its three channels TV3, 3e and be3. Leaving 186,000 between 3e and Be3 - I'd expect a good figure for Celebrity Big Brother on 3e.

So it would leave Be3 with less than 50k viewers in that primetime slot ?

If Celeb Big Brother got around 130,000, then they could have 50k on Be3. I think it was a Trevor McDonald documentary, so I wouldn't have expected it to get much more than that.
Impossible to know what figures these channels receive unless there's a press release, or medialive would add the channels to their Top 20.

TV3 has time to decide on Red Rock. If it takes a break this summer it will finish up in the Q1 of 2018. Remember 3 seasons have been produced, not the suggested 5 from TV3.

Celebrity Masterchef

EP 1 - 104,000
EP 2 - 121,000
EP 3 - 77,000

It is surprising that TV3 took Sugar Free Farm from ITV, I think Celeb Masterchef would have done better at 7:30 following Emmers on Tuesday night. Though it could be interrupted due to Champions League.

I think it would have aired at this time regardless of Coro St and Emmerdales return.

It will be interesting to see where they put The Restaurant when it returns.

RTE2 will be sad to see 6 nations go in 2018.

I don't like the way that Medialive do post and build up numbers rather than the whole show. Six Nations had from 138,000 viewers (women's) up to 586,000 viewers for Post match analysis of the Irish V Scottish game (understandable as we lost).

Repeats of Home & Away, Reruns of RTE ONE programmes and movies take up the rest of the top 20, with Homeland getting 77,000 viewers.

Over on TV3, things aren't looking all that well. No sign of Masterchef. With everything outside the soaps in the top 20 getting from 88,000 viewers (VB Tonight) and 128,000 viewers for The Voice.

Red Rock was down with 111,000 but that is relatively stable.

Xpose's 8pm programme getting 107,000 and 95,000 viewers on Mon and Fri respectively. Is it just me but as Xpose gains Coro St losses?

I'm guessing they are profitable if they are sold to foreign networks. Though I doubt any channel outside of Ireland would want to show Masterchef Ireland.

TV3 did say that Emmerdale & Corrie was a loss maker for them when UTV I nabbed them - although that was prob sour grapes from them.

I would say that their in-house programming is profitable and I'd say that had UTV Ireland not had a news service it would have made profits.

Really the audiences are too low for their commission. If gogglebox, masterchef are costing the same as Red Rock you'd have to wonder why they don't do another soap.

EVERY is a bit of an exaggeration, I'd say there are a good few saorview only households in the west of Ireland.

I think you might say 'nearly' every Saorview household - as you might say 'nearly' every household has a valid TV licence.

Pat Keily has an interview in The Sunday Indo today. Interesting that he doesn't mention actual shares rather he mentions how TV3 has increased by 54%, that be3 has an audience greater than both BBC2 and Channel4 and that TV3 takes up 70% of all viewing for the TV3 channels.

If it's 54% ahead of Dec 14.2%
If it's ahead of last years average 11.9%
If it's ahead of Jan 2016 11.27%

But with out really knowing of where he is getting 54% we don't really know, it could be for one day or one week of his choosing, it could be for purely prime time.

On the other hand be3 has dropped to about 1.5% (again a little over both BBC2 and Channel 4 in recent years).

With no change to 3e (no mention of the channel) we are talking from between 18.7% and 15.8% in total? (where 3e stays at 2.5 and +1 is at 0.5)

Jan 2016 all 4 channels had 16.04% with an average for 2016 of 16.37%

It will be interesting to see if they have actually retained their audience, but telling that he did not mention actually audience shares.

edit: I am going with TV3 (10.5), 3e (2.5), be3 (1.5) and +1 (0.5). Total 15%
