It's gone crazy Steve, they had a copy of Twin Snakes on GC last week and it was 78 euro. If I'm down tomorrow I'll take more pictures. It's a new store and it only opened a few months ago. They had a blue 2ds in the window, the screen was scratched to sh1t and they were asking 90 euro, it's gone a joke. I don't know how they're selling the stuff. It's my Daughter's 8th birthday next week and she was asking for a 2ds and Tomodachi Life. I got a new one from Amazon and it was just over 100 hundred euro delivered.That was the Tomodachi Life 2ds pack with the game installed.

@The Last Bandit. These old PC boxes were huge. Had quite a few myself. You'd nearly want to build a new shed in the backgarden to store them.

I use to have a PSOne, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, loads of PC games and loads of console games and over the passing of time --12 years or so.......they just disappeared. Vanished. I know the parents gave away a few consoles without telling me and possible theft of games from the brother, but still. I was just careless with them.

Big box PC and Amiga games, flight sims with manuals like college textbooks!
There seemed to be something so substantial about gaming back then, in the late 80s to mid 90s.
It's hard to keep track of stuff, particularly when you move on and leave the precious things with the folks, and they just see them as toys and move them on.
Just take your time and re-aquire them, build a collection again.

Went to the Sligo gamestop to see if I could get Dragon Quest 8. It was never the best gamestop in the world but it's awful now. They don't even have a 3DS section anymore. There's only a miniscule wall for Xbox One and PS4 games and the rest is taken up by those disgusting Funko Pop figures and assorted tat.

I was walking past Gamestop in Bray the other day and for a second I thought it had been replaced with a clothes shop. Just loads of t-Shirts and stuff up front. And as you say, just a ridiculous amount of those Funko Pop things when you walk inside.

It was almost comical on Henry St. Walked upstairs to where I thought there 2nd hand section was, only to find the entire 1st floor dedicated to the 'swag' stuff.

Funko Pops join Amiibo in the "well, whatever you're into" category of my estimations.

I was under the assumption that they'd split the branding between Gamestop and Gamestop+ (like the new one in Dundrum SC), with the latter being the tat shops, but it seems pretty ubiquitous.

It's a little bit worrying that videogames are disappearing as a presence in the high street. Couple that with the massive decrease in consoles game sales, it could have a snowball effect.

The one in Cork City is a Gamestop+ and it's a sad sight to see, 1 1/2 walls of games and some on the floor and the rest all t-shirts and figures. Makes it worse that you cross the road and walk past the remnants of GAME.

I was still doing the occasional Christmas there, in the Santry store, and it still had interested staff and customers that liked to browse and chat.
But now it has become a income stream development hub, with loyalty cards and game insurance mattering more than if the latest FF title lives up to its rep.
The slow takeover of the shops of crap is completely expected, and heralded by pop stars of a number of years ago wearing Atari shirts without having a whit or a notion of what Atari was or is.
And now we see it everywhere, from japanese Batman messenger bags to over priced Monopoly in a myriad of cultural touchstone flavours.

The whole diversifying revenue streams recalls the collapsing Chartbusters or Xtravision, where the focus seemed to be geared towards salvation gimmicks rather than how to update their bread-and-butter to changing times.

In fairness GameStop fcuked over a lot of developers by offering a secondhand copy of a game for a few euros less than a new copy. With the move towards digital downloads gathering pace will there even be physical copies of games around in five or ten years.

Well I hope to feck rural Internet speeds gather pace in the mean time. Having download speeds of about 2.7mb does not make for a joyous experience with modern gaming.

That all depends on what will happen to net neutrality in the US. It's an inevitability that it will be gutted at this point, and given that there are many regional ISP monopolies who would put a stranglehold upon the homes they provide internet to (it would be much less of an issue if the US had a better network infrastructure and multiple local ISP's because, hey, they would actually have to compete to provide a good service regardless), it is possible that the usage of digital downloads and streaming will slow to a crawl, which would make the prospect of buying physical media lucrative again. And maybe the games companies will actually start to compress and optimise patches, because having a 10 gig day one patch is just ludicrous.

Bought DOOM for the PS4 recently. Yippee cool game, hell here I come, what wait 40GB patch wtf was the disc blank ?

Another thing, got The Last Guardian and you'd think after the 8 or 9 years someone could have wrote a manual/pamphlet or something to put in the box beside the the disc and a 1 sheet advert.

The Last Guardian is a tiny install though, at least compared to it's peers, around 10Gb and no updates or massive patches during my time playing it.
It is a bit basic compared to Ico and SotC alright, as packages go. I think it's rough gestation had a lot to do with it, I don't think Sony favoured investing any more in it tbh, and our loss as a result.
I'd love to pick up the three games' soundtracks. Just lovely.

Ico was a wonderful game and SotC is a beautiful game, from its design to its music, its very emotional and the closest game I would consider a work of art, its was made with passion before profit. I've yet to get TLG, hope it has the same feel.

I'm not getting on with it. It looks and sounds fantastic but just moving through the game is janky and annoying. Also if you replaced Trico with a crate to climb and a key to open doors it probably wouldn't change the gameplay that much.

I'm not all that far through it but so far I get the impression the delays where because the team wasn't happy with the game and wanted to cancel it and it was Sony pressure that resurrected it so they could expand the PS4 library with something a bit different.

But isn't Trico there for that emotional connection as well, I've read that it is one of the best AI companions ever made.

Don't mind him
The problems the game has are far outweighed by the experience the title delivers.
Some "problems" that have been described by some as game breaking, the behaviours of Trico, are deliberate, as the developers didn't want it to be a "crate" to be moved and directed with ease to where it's needed, and he struggle to be understood links and underpins the relationship that develops between the hero and the beast, right up to the moving final act.
The controls are very PS2 though, but you'll get accustomed.
Camera issues are more intrusive, though only intermittently so and can be managed.
It's no 6/10 game that's for sure!
