Kerry GAA Discussion Thread Mod Warning Post #4167

I was at the game in Tralee over the weekend.

The panel is looking very strong this year. David Moran was excellent in midfield and Aidan O'Shea looks a class act aswell. Going to be a lot of competition for places and Kennelly still has to come back. Nice to see Jack O'Connor get his maiden victory.

Galvin kicked three good points but seemed to tire considerably in the second half. I'm not sure when they started training but they looked sharp, considering Donegal had McKenna Cup games played- looking forward to next weekend against Tyrone.

I think it's different these days and possibly a good sign for Kerry that the old boys think they need to show up now rather than wait until the league as the younger lads might be good enough now to hold their place.

If the older lads were guaranteed a place they'd wait till the league. Certainly that has been my reading of it over the past few years, I've often wondered why an experienced player is being risked now, turns out in some cases they are bursting a gut to show how hungry they are and are being picked as they are pushing for it on the training ground.

I see Jack Barry started at midfield instead of Moran and won the penalty for Kerry. Donnacha Walsh went off injured after 13mins replaced by Brendan O'Sullivan

Jack Savage was destructive inside it seems with 6 points.

ideally a few of them play in a league game or two each, but thats about it.

The Gaelic Grounds in Limerick is the venue for the McGrath Cup Final on Sunday between Kerry and Limerick. The venue was decided on the toss of a coin.

The double bill at the Gaelic Grounds will also see Kerry Hurlers take on Limerick in the CoOpSuperstores.ie Munster Senior Hurling League in the opening game at 1pm followed by the McGrath Cup final at 3pm.

no point doing the league, with up to 8-10 lads involved in club games and a limitation on the under21s playing.

Am I mad in thinking that its not how many under 21 we should bring in to senior team but the other way around how many seniors we should bring in to under 21 team or am I dreaming of that great kerry team of 75 an under 21 team with a small sprinkling of seniors that through off the shakels and beat the dubs well fuuck lads I am excited about this year we have the best talent in the country, no pressure than

Has anybody read this? Looks like we are about to lose Shaw to Aussie rules and possibly Okunbor as well. Where is this going to end? Clifford and Sean O'Shea must surely be on TK's wish list as well.

This is getting worrying at this stage. These guys are well entitled to their crack at a pro career but it would be a disaster for Kerry to lose our best young lads. Not much we can do about it I guess.

To be 100% honest about Okunbor he is more of an athlete than a footballer. I don't mean that as a slight or anything but I think he'd be a better AFL player than a GAA player.

That's just my opinion on seeing him at club level. He has an incredibly high ceiling, but is a bit short on football instincts yet.

I wouldn't see him as a huge loss to Kerry Gaa but certainly a huge loss for Na Gaeil

It's the wider issue I am concerned about rather than the direct loss of the above players. Appatently Kennelly has also set his sights on Clifford, who is probably the best minor we have produced since Gooch.

We appear to have another golden generation emerging and it would be a pity to have the best young players picked off before they even put on a senior jersey.

Surely you can't begrudge those lads a chance to make a living from sport? If they're good enough, more power to them. I do think the club's and Kerry should be compensated for their efforts of years of training and developing these players.

The days of playing for the pride of the jersey are over and if lads like Clifford have a chance to make a truck load of cash playing a game then they should take it and forget about Kerry.

No I don't blame the players at all, I already said that. More power to them. Its disappointing t lose your best players all the same.

I actually am very pleased with that team. I wouldn't be surprised to see Morley playing centre back all year. Glad to see Murphy back at HB, and looking forward to seeing Jack Barry and Foley in particular.

It's a team that looks like taking a bit of shape in the run up to the league. I think we need to add some inspiration to the half forward line - we've had plenty of graft there over the last couple of years but could badly do with finding a settled line up with pace and threat to go with it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see James at centre forward rather than Jack, wouldn't mind trying him out there extensively.

Good stuff. Heading down to Munster v Racing today for the rugby staying in Tralee and back to Dublin via Limerick Sunday. My first match of the season.

Quite clearly Fitz is taking a bit of a different approach this year and freshening things up considerably. Just hope he follows through.

Not totally satisfied with the team named but more positives than negatives for sure. Not a fan of Young at corner back (if he plays there) as he's a half-back,end of. The hard-on for Mikey Geaney persists, as does my belief that he isn't good enough.
On the positive side, would dearly love to see that full-forward line take the field come the business end of championship. Good to see totally new faces like Gavin Crowley (who I rate highly), Adrian Spillane and Jack Barry. Good to see Denis Daly isn't off the radar either as he is another player I would consider as being close to the standard.
Will probably win tomorrow but league will offer better tests and it seems (you would hope) that this year there will be less sluggish stuff early on.

Comfortable but scrappy from Kerry.

Forwards making a lot of errors and we are being whistled out of it up feont in posession.

Morley and Foley the pick of the bunch so far. Foley looks quick and let nothing in behind him. Morley winning a lot of 50/50 balls.

David Moran poor enough but bagged a Donaghyesque goal at the edge of the square.

Paul Murphy went off with a minor looking leg injury replaced by Gavin Crowley- who picked up a leg injury himself at the very end of the half and might have to come off.

Jack Savage out of the game at CHF. Mikey Geaney and Jonathan Lyne look good.

Jack Barry getting in good positions but poorly excecuted passes and a poor shot have let him down. Looks really good in the air though
