Thread for folk who are going to apply this coming year. And for those, like myself, who tried in previous campaigns and just didn't quite make it. Be nice to have a support network from the get go outside of people you know. I'm convinced that nothing will happen with a new campaign until the remaining 305 on 1509 myself included begin progressing through the latter stages, given that recent FOIs etc...state that they plan to fully exhaust the current list.

From memory the recent recruitment campaigns were announced in the second week of the month around the 14th with applications opening two weeks later around 30th

They normally launch with the media two weeks before applications open. I wouldn't be surprised if they waited for the current media storm to pass before announcing anything. All anyone is interested in is the circus we call Stormont. PSNI recruitment wouldn't even get a mention on the news outlets at the minute.

Although they do need to get the finger out given the timescales of the recruitment process.

Same here also, been waiting for this for a year. I chickened out last time as I felt 19 was too young to join up. Now, I am itching to get this underway. Fit and raring to go! I wish everyone luck and I hope recruitment comes round as soon as possible! Any other rumours as to when this will happen?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this page hoping to apply for the new campaign coming out this month for 2017. I have heard on the grapevine that it should be advertised at some point this up and coming week. I'm on the page most days seeing for any updates. I too just seen a post on ards psni having a joke about people saying they could do their job and to wait for the next recruitment. So it must be coming shortly.

Yeah, pretty basic if I recall. Name, address and lots of box ticking. Mostly to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements, age, residency, etc.

The two statements may change but they are as follows. (These have mentioned many times on here and elsewhere before) They may be subject to change.

Why are you interested in becoming a police constable? (150 words max)

Outline the skills you have and how they meet the requirements of the role of a police constable (150 words max)

Application form is fine. it's mostly pretty basic aside from the two statements, which I think have a limit of 150 words.

If you are interested in the legislation and want a bit of reading to do. Here is a list of some of the things I found interesting. This is by no stretch of the imagination a comprehensive list or even some of the most important parts but just some things I found Interesting to read up on.

www.legislation.gov.uk This website is brilliant for it.

Article 26 of PACE is your power of arrest (under pace) and is worth a read.
Article 20
Article 34 Also worth looking at.

Article 180 of the Road Traffic Order.

Section 23 Misuse of drugs Act (Northern Ireland)

Section 24 Justice and security Act NI

All just little bits that I have picked up along the way. But if your interested it can be a good read especially if it stays with you.

The online learning prior to GV is all legislation based...

I'm currently serving in England. Most forces including mine require you to have a police qualification which costs about £1000. It covers the main legislation and some policies and procedures. Then in Police college we would revise it and more in depth.

There is no harm at all with learning legislation prior to GV as it will give a good foundation. Just make sure when using www.legislation.gov that you tick the "geographic" box to see if it applies in NI.

Cheers Robocop, very useful insight, I will most certainly want to stay resident in GV. Im glad you mention the support of other colleagues being a help as I like that aspect of the job. From what I have heard from others and on this thread that the family/friendships (whatever you want to label it) is good for the most part.

There was a smiley face added at the end of my sentence but it didn't work.
I totally know what u mean about the age thing has its advantages and disadvantages and that's were team work comes in. All help each other.
