Short break suggestions

KERSPLAT!

I'm hoping to get away for a few days soon enough, either down the country or a city break. Only going for 3 nights or so, anyone any suggestions?

Planning on getting out and about, sightseeing and touristy stuff.

Where have you been recently that you would recommend?

I was thinking Cork or Galway or a cheap city break via Ryanair.

Abroad I haven't been anywhere really. In Ireland, recently, it's mostly in Leinster so anywhere outside would be good

In terms of breaks away I've loved Nice and going to Cannes and Monaco. Loved Budapest. Adored Malta. Lisbon. Great time in Iceland but not cheap. Actually London as a tourist not just on business was good.

A bit of both but outdoors would be good! Somewhere good for walks, nice parks etc. Maybe mountain biking, hiking, etc. Few pubs and decent restaurants too.

I was in Malta and London recently enough. Loved both but spent the majority of the time drunk, in both!

If its a gang of lads hoping for a few days of debauchery i couldn't recommend Waterford city any weekend during term time.The people are sound,the pubs are great and the women are nymphomaniacs.Both local lasses and students alike.No such thing as the thrill of the chase down there bai!

Would highly recommend Barcelona, especially at this time of year. Ryanair will get you there.
Easy to get around and lots to do.
Plus maybe even catch some flamenco dancing!

And...you've never been...to Killarney? Walks, parks, hiking, few pubs...it's the essence of why so many go. From strolling around Muckross Park to walks around Ireland's most famous lakes in the National Park right up to Carrauntoohill, it's rather famous for walks and hikes. If you have a car, you are set up.

And no, not Waterford. Dungarvan is okay, again near nice walking and hiking areas in the Comeraghs...but still a long way behind Killarney...

But I had to drive from Waterford to Cork and the views were amazing.

If I had a few bob right now I would head for 3 days to Budapest either this weekend (when its really cold with clear skies) or next weekend (when it might be snowing) where I would walk around the lovely streets all day and eat cake in Jewish cafes sometimes and as soon as it got dark I would be out in me togs in the beyond amazing outdoor hot pools looking up at the stars for hours until they kick me out. Sleep, rinse and repeat.

West Waterford is very nice, the Comeraghs, Knockmealdowns on one side, sea on the other. Then you come to East Cork and it's just so much...meh...until Cork city. Flat featureless landscape, only good for hurling.

West Cork just blows it away.

Dingle Town and peninsula,ticks all the boxes. And if it gets stormy it's even better.

And before all the tourists come so early in the season is ideal.

Climbed Carrauntoohill as a nipper! It does sound good, definitely on the list

And don't forget Killarney has a lot of mountains with even better views, like Purple Mountain and Torc, a lot that are not as long a walk, Torc again, or Mangerton, or the Paps, and some that are more challenging and exposed, like the Big Gun Ridge. And walks that don't require much ascending at all, like around Ross Island, Muckross Lake, and the Old Road to Kenmare.

Wroclaw or any city in Poland (maybe skip Gdansk). Cheap, great food, lots of history to see, gorgeous this time of year, short flight for a short weekend away.

It's brilliant. A bit pricy alright and you might expect it to be full of tossers juicing and detoxing but it's anything but. The staff are great, incredibly friendly, considerate, personalised service. Very, very relaxing and if you're into the spa, I've never seen or even heard of anywhere (certainly in Ireland) having a better one. The food is fantastic and I don't know of another hotel where they encourage you to go down to breakfast in your dressing gown!
