I wouldn't be a Renault naysayer, but those Scenic's are desperate reliability wise.

The early Megane was a bit of a trial, electric's wise. Friends had one, and the dashboard was changed twice, plus a lot of other fiddly little el. problems. Chopped it in for a Corolla as soon as the finance was finished on it.

Is the colour of the bonnet a bit off? CLK240, NCT 6/17 €1250

170 bhp from 2.6 tax :( Otherwise nice looking one.

That GS300 for €700 has a VRT rebate of €687. Net cost of a 13 year old, 3 litre Lexus is €3.

I think it deserves a nomination for Bangernomics of The Year 2016.

I'm not gonna point out that your maths are out 'cause that'd be a kuntish thing to do! ;)

I just noticed few pages long discussion, should have been warned earlier:D

The reality is that at bangernomics level I would rather have 1.8 supercharged.

Plenty of money left over to service, buy new tires etc for a year.

Any admin charges, like €10 maybe? Just guessing here.

Engines aside ,there is the dodgy dashboards, flakey handbrake, faulty keycards and breaking window motors/regulators if you get a bad one that is :)

The €687 is a net price, it's what you get after all charges.

I made the mistake that €700-687 is actually €13 and not €3. ;-)

So what do people do sell them to some cash for cars outfit in blighty and get the vrt rebate and a few quid ?

If one could knock price down for the price of 3 months tax or close to it, it would be a bonus.

    The Lexus GS300 is sold.

I think there is a serious scam possible here that someone is going to get caught out by.

Someone could export car to UK, get vrt refund.
Drive car back to Ireland, put Irish plates back on and offer it for sale possibly with original logbook still present.

That's exactly my point I was really thinking of getting the gs300 but it was sold today. You know the way its cheap and everything looks good but is there any way at all to know for definite it hasn't been claimed back.

Logbook has to be presented when importing the car to a new country, where a new one is then issued. After that you get the VRT rebate, so that isn't going to work.

There is another option which involves declaring a logbook missing and exporting the car when the new book is issued. I'm sure the usual suspects have thought of it.

yes. That is what I was referring to as I said possibly with original logbook still present.
I didn't want to be detailing the entire scam.

. Mercedes always made very elegant estates IMO. The W211 estate is now in Bangernomics territory. Reliability wasn't always thye best in the very early ones, so these may be a lottery, but most people will think you paid 3-4 times what these cost.

2003 E200, 07/17, €2,000. 4 new tyres, check the brand and you'll get an idea of how well the car was looked after. Tax has been out a few months which may be a warning.

E240, NCT 08/17, €1,900. This will be harder to sell because of the higher tax, so could be had for a good bit less. New NCT claimed.

Just to let people know you have to be registered owner for 6 months prior to claiming rebate. Unless you are a proper dealer

Nct'd till May AND taxed till June all for 850 and you would hope to get it cheaper. Very economical and old style diesel with what looks like a good bit of of paper work with it and interior looks very clean.

Note that those clocks go back to 0 every 100,000 miles.

Still, €500 is not a lot.
