Nope....they have no kill instinct...like a terrier will choke a fox...but foxhounds won't. ...it's an unspoken about thing....even by those that partake in foxhunting

They literally eat it alive....That's why there is relatively few call to vets etc from kennels where the dogs are kept

A horrible sport,which I am somewhat amazed so many farmers partake in....how could you support doing that to an animal, and go home and look after your own?

Hands up, don't know anyone who hunts, not a big sport in South Kerry.

Know plenty of farmers, and know 2 fellows who shoot foxes as a job (which afaik racks up far more kills and injuries) and guess they'd shrug their shoulders and say life in the country for animals can be nasty, brutish and short. The socio economic status of the hunter isn't much interest to the fox!

Socially acceptable animal cruelty is just as abhorrent as the cruelty against the animals it's fashionable to care about.

I've no problem shooting them (and dogs) to stop them Attacking sheep/killing lambs....but I'll be fcuked if I'll partake in cruelty and would seriously lower my opinion of people who do

There is nothing normal about people on horses getting enjoyment from chasing a Fox to its death.
Harming animals for fun is a proven Sign of a sociopath.

I've often taken a walk by the River Barrow and it really helped my depression. However when the fuckers from the gun clubs (there's at least two of them between Carlow and Athy) are out shooting every animal and bird in sight it depresses me further.

I don't think you can compare suicide prevention to homelessness. If you're hungry you might do anything or take anyones money to survive. If you're suicidal it may well be because of all the misery in the world, and the fact that there are assholes that shoot everything in sight could well be part of that misery. I can see why a suicide charity might have second thoughts about being associated with guns too.

I won't challenge your expertise in psychology, know a few who hunt in Cork and Limerick...and they are not sociopaths. Do you have any references, studies etc.?

The area in question is macroom. I believe the proof is in one of the issues of the Lee valley outlook where it mentions 150 foxes killed. I am not sure what year or month exactly. My guess is 2013. It will take me some time to go through the online archive but I will do my best.

It was my neighbour that said it to me but I do remember reading it in the magazine. There was loads of people and dogs involved in the hunt that covered a very large area. That is why such a high number of foxes killed.

They are mad for hunting in my area. Almost every Sunday you hear the dogs running through the fields. You hear guns often as well.

Shooting is also a hobby, it helps people mix, in fresh air. They are positives.

Google macroom hunting festival. It is held annually in Jan that lasts a week and all over macroom. So that is a whole week of hunting. It is the 2014 one that was the one that killed 150 foxes. I found a photo of that meet and they had loads of people on horseback.

I'll get back to you regarding the 150 number but with a hunt that lasts a week and called a festival it is very possible 150 killed would you not agree?

If you were on a hunt that killed that many foxes most of the statistics would come from word of mouth. We are rural Ireland. Not everyone uses the internet. The one magazine is the Lee valley that mentions the hunt and has a photo but does not say the 150 number.

This number comes from those that were involved. So the evidence I will bring to the table will be from someone that was involved in the hunt. Somehow I don't think that will be enough evidence for you?

So you provisionally agree that a week long hunting festival can kill 150 foxes? I am not going to be contacting individuals about hunting statistics over Xmas so I will come back here with some proof at a later date.

I never like being accused of offering misinformation. My initial post was to mention the charity affiliation with a local charity and that a high number of foxes were killed in one particular event. The 150 number is well known in the area and the number communicated to me by my neighbour who would have no reason to lie.

Of course individuals that took part in the event would like to brag about the success of the event so maybe 150 is inflated. I can see also why publications would not want the actual figure to be promoted as that would reflect poorly on the charity and magazine. Most mentions I discovered are about how successful it was. No mention of how success is measured I.e number of foxes killed, turn out.....

So in due course we will find out how they measured success and hopefully I will have a number for you in the next few days. Merry Xmas!=)
