Just found a 3 inch long one on the doorstep. I didn't even know they existed here. Is it an escapee and should we do something or let it wander off?

They don't exist here, if you release it, it will die.

It couldn't of come from far away, ask a few neighbors who have kids if they are missing one.

Other than that you have 2 options, keep it or give it to a pet shop who can rehome it.

In the interests of zoology I stuck a tape measure beside it. 10cm long.

By "it" I mean Sticky, actually not sure that's great either...

Actually, reported it to the British Phasmid Study Group which keeps a record of sightings.

I don't think I've had a Christmas Eve this exciting in 30 years. Mrs Poindexter was less interested.

I have seen many stick insects out in my garden. They just come and sit around on the patio for a few hours then disappear.
