Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

On Carbon black? Something like Pete's 53, Fusso, Pentawax or Powerlock would be my recommendations.

On that color I would consider a Machine polish to maximise the effect it has, and I would use a ceramic coat.
I did an E60 my son had and it was amazing in the sunlight.

It is actually hard to believe that this glitter is in the paint.

That looks amazing makes me want to get my car polished.

Anyway I have a black 5 series and I washed, clayed then used 2 coats of CG Blacklight and then 845 and thought it came out really well.

Probably get a machine polish done in new year as the car could do with it. Think last guy that had it washed it with a brillo pad.

Chemical Guys Pete's53 would look well.

If it were me, and durability wasn't a concern, I'd go with ODK Glamour, good for 2 months, or if you wanted a bit more, their Eclipse will give 3 months

Am going to try Pets 53 next but the bottle of 845 seems to be lasting forever.

Went out to D&D Detailing and got some good help from the lads there. Bought Snow Foam, clay, lambs wool mitt, fallout remover, Shampoo and a sealant, happy with the results so far. Apologies for the image sizes.

Finally got the chance to detail the 850R and GustavoFring's VRS over Friday and Saturday.

The 850R was initially an outside decontamination and seal with an interior and engine bay clean but the paint was so badly faded I used a 3-in-1 Cut/Polish/Seal from Menzerna on a 2D Super Heavy Cut Pad to freshen it up. This was by no means a correction as I was racing against the light but for the quick passes the panels received it cut very well, very minimal swirls left!

Gustavo's VRS got a full decontamination, coat of Fusso followed by a coat of King of Gloss.

Very pink.

Those two little rear pieces below the lights were not the same colour so did not restore to that nice red.

Both are capable and I always mention both - but Metz seems to be only able to type 1 letter and 1 number when recommending products!

He had his own to put on so never bothered with a restorer. He got some grey dye from the US for them.

Washed the Golf today for the first time in over a month. It was bad. When done i noticed the bonnet was very swirly and the bright winter sun was really making it look 100 times worse! Not sure how that happened as I'm very careful washing it but anyway... lucky I had my DA to hand.

10-15 minutes later with a quick pass over with CarPro fixer and then a quick pass with Reflect and I had it perfect again

No before pic unfortunately...

I'll keep with the golf trend

New car, time to spruce it up!

Gave the golf some tlc, both inside and out yesterday for the first time. The bodywork is in super condition, with very few marks, was treated well I'd say.
Process was, hoover, wipe down the dash and apply autoglym dash spray stuff (can't think of the name)
(The sat nav radio that was robbed will soon be replaced, can only play CD's with this one) :mad:

Anyway, outside, wash, detar, de iron, wash, clay, polish, wax, treated tyres & trim

It's so much easier to see the products working on a silver car, as I'm used to dealing with dark cars.

Gave her a good going over today.

Wash (2 bucket - Autoglym shampoo)
Detar (Holts tar remover)
Clay (meguairs clay bar)
Polish - (Autoglym super resin polish)
Finished it off with collinite 845.

Happy with the results!

Lots of amazing work being put in, in the last few days guys!

Just finished washing, polishing and waxing my GF's dad's Merc e280. It's a 2006 and I would reckon it hasn't been polished since it left the factory. It was covered in suncream hand marks and dull. I was stuck for time, so I only washed it once (changed the water in the bucket 3 times it was so bad). I would have loved to clay it, as you could feel how tarnished the paint was, but all I could do was move to Autoglym super resin polish. It really brought it back to life, and it seemed to remove the hand marks without too much bother. It's waxed now, and looking well in the drive. I'll post pics in 2017!

I was in too much of a rush to think of before pics! But here's an after.

I really need to go at the wheels again as they are still caked in brake dust. They have got to be the easiest shape of wheel to clean, but it just took an age to make progress on them due to how dirty they were.

Anyway, here's the pic, a nice bit of beading to prove my waxing talk wasn't a lie!

I didn't have any wheel cleaner at home so I just had the soap from washing the car. I know I know, far from ideal, and it's probably the main reason I had such trouble!

I'll need to make a big order of car cleaning bits soon. Everything I have is running low. So I'll invest in some ironX.
