On adverts so I can't link a pic, but a very rare rover 416 SLi estate here. NCT to 12/17 and tax to 6/17 for €500. Shame the owner says it would make great "dump car" as these are quite rare. And very sought after in the UK.

Your car has the optional bi-xenon headlights which were an expensive option, if you do part out the car you should get a good price for them (including the auto levelling setup and in bumper washer).

It probably was! Well the car was tested less than 2 months ago and there is no change of ownership in the last 3 months.

I guess the owner could have sold it to a trader, who didn't put it in his name, but why would the owner spend any time & money getting it tested only to sell it to a trader for what, maybe €200?

No direct experience with a 9-5 but I believe its the same Aisin 6 speed box we have in a 2008 Citroen Grand Picasso. It's a good box, shifts when it should, kicks down when you need it to. When there's an oil burning lump on the other side of the box however, vibrations tend to get attributed to the engine rather than the box.

I've 12 year old volvo s80 2.0 petrol with ~166,000 km on the clock. It is absolutely perfectly smooth between gear changes. Perfectly. The only time i feel shudder is between second and third, when cold.
A shudder or slap with an auto box should be avoided when warm. When cold yes, of course its going to be a bit jerky, not when warmed though.
A thunky or slappy auto box is best avoided

Aaaaaand €1000 tax. Such a shame, a perfectly nice, useful, ordinary car, but you'd have to be cracked.

There's not many who would be into taxing a ten year old, diesel Civic to the tune of €3 a day. It's probably negate any fuel saving you would make over buying a 1.4/ 8 petrol.

That said, the tax and mileage are making the price so appealing. I'd say if you halved the mileage on that car you could double the price.

If the seller ( who appears to fix up alfas) is honest, then this is a very sensible 156 for small money. Loads of work done, long NCT, low mileage and reasonable 1.6 tax, coupled with presentable body work make it a prime example.
