The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

Nonoperational

Nasty rattle from the front bumper/engine under tray area on drivers side. Noticed it when closing the door. Sounds like a loose exhaust heat shield or something. Must try jack it up and see. When you tap the bumper it makes it too. Any ideas?

Sounds more like it could be the undertray itself? The exhaust heat shield(s) wouldn't be anywhere near the front bumper so it's more than likely not that.

Weird question - I have the santiagos and was thinking of getting the Austins. What are the odds on finding someone who would do a straight swap?

Had a look under the car. Couldn't be bothered taking off the under tray too many screws but I don't think its that. It's more metallic.

Also, the jack is a pain in the hole to put back properly!

I'm fairly sure we had a customer buy a set of Pretorias last week, incl a set of Dunlop tyres for around €3200 all in. Must double check tomorrow.

I'd say pretty good! Maybe someone here would be interested, assuming they're in good condition, etc.

I'm guessing you're finding the 19's too stiff? Interestingly, for whatever reason, the side profile on the R's 19's is a bit higher (35's rather than 25's IIRC).

You with a VW dealer? That price doesn't sound too bad, he must have got a nice discount, assuming they're genuine prets and not reps.

Yeah. They'd be genuine wheels. I'm 99.9% sure they were Pretorias, i'll double check tomorrow and post the part number and price. If they weren't Pretorias they are a very similar wheel.

What kind of condition are they in? Any marks, scuffs, dings? And how about the tyres?

Personally, a biased opinion, I'm fond of the pretoria's on the R.

Black pretorias. Think I prefer the standard gunmetal finish tbh, especially on a black car. Too much black! As mentioned in earlier posts, the factory option price for those on the CS is off the radar.

No surprise that car is priced "POA"! The 4k wheels, the 2k seats, Pro Nav... probably touching 55k there

I think it's a UK car too... MPH clocks.

I thought they were prets alright. It would be pricey I imagine but if you optioned the Recaro shell seats and forged wheels on a Focus RS you are up over 55k so I guess it's all relative.

Focus RS would be north of 60k spec-for-spec if I'm not mistaken... but the RS is a different animal really, it's more comparable to the R or maybe even the RS3.

Clocks are relatively straightforward to change in the mk7. I got my R sold a while back, exported it so needed to change the clocks to mph. Putting in km clocks would be same job.

Maybe it's my age but I just don't get Black wheels at all. I love prets on a golf but not those.
Just about get away with them on a light colour car but black on black no way.
Surely that car is a depreciation disaster with all that kit on it?

Absolutely. It'll be worth only marginally more than a standard spec'd CS. But that applies to any car you load up with kit.

Your on the ball there, that is not an Irish car plus black Prets are not an option here, also it's got the sunroof which as you mention would bring it definitely close to 55k. Just imagine what you could get in the UK for that sort of money, VRT included.

Deffo 55k, possibly a bit more. The one I sat into last week was standard spec + sunroof and DSG and had a sticker price of 49k. Those wheels, seats, Nav add another 7k approx... The seats are probably a worthwhile option to go for if feeling flush - they're unique to the car and would make it much more attractive as a used car. 4k for the wheels though would be an absolutely crazy box to tick.

I was tempted to go for the buckets but found the trade-off too much by loosing the centre armrest, side air bag, storage under and behind the seats, rear ventilation and centre cup holder cover. Besides according to the German Clubsport forum several owners are having issues with the bucket seats reporting squeaks and rattles and are having problems resolving the issue, I still ponder though if I have made the right choice by sticking with the standard seats which really are no different than the RS but with different covers.

(DCC on its own in the uk is £830)

the 19 brescia are a £595 option

the titan black flash red clubsport cloth bucket seats are £1,350

I don't like the prets. I do like some dark alloys on a grey GTi. Love these for example..

The pro nav is actually a good bit cheaper here, as the car comes with the small screen nav, so you just pay the difference (about 550).

I was about to pull the trigger on a set of those Neuspeed's until Brexit messed it up and the price of them went up 30%. Given that their only EU distributor is based in the UK, this shows you how things have been affected by that and they're now a medium to premium product in the price range of proper premium products, like BBS, which when put side by side really makes you reconsider.
