Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

Just tell her you plan on collecting MF towels like she does shoes, handbags etc...

Be sure to give it a wash before the first use - no fabric softener - will perform better!
Or use it straight out of the bag, but dont judge it totally on the first use!

Gave the Microfiber Madness Dry Me Crazy a wash in the washing machine, but now will i ever get the bloody thing dry! even on rinse/spin its soaking, but i suppose this is what it does,collect water!

An auld rope in the shed or garage, and throw it over it each time you are done...it'll be good to go next time out!

would the 15ml kit of flyby forte do 2 cars? If not would it do 2 windscreens with a couple of layers each?

Should do 2 cars, all windows.

To be safe; do your two windcreens first with two coats, and then coat the rest of the glass with just 1 coat, as Flyby Forte will be plenty durable on other windows.

With any glass coating, the windscreen needs at least 2 coats due to the wipers. 1 coat is enough for all other glass.

I took a wheel off at the weekend to get a puncture repaired. While I was at it I said I'd try cleaning the back of the wheel. There was years of brake dust etc. I hit it with CarPro fallout remover, rinsed, washed - and repeated this a few times. As you can see there's still a layer of stubborn stuff left. Will this come off if I keep at it or does it need something more aggressive?

You need to get a wheel cleaner something like Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel and a soft wheel brush to agitate the product. This may require a number of goes depending on the level contamination.

Thanks RB. I should have said - I had a sample of 50 cal RTU wheel cleaner and used that. The first few times loads of stuff came off but what's left in the photo is damn stubborn!

There's only so much a product like IronX or Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel will be able to do. CarPro IronX Paste would give a more intensive cleaning, but do you need the backs looking that good? Some people do! :P

To be honest I don't need the backs looking that good. I only started cleaning it when the wheel was off - I probably should've left well enough alone! But it's just sooo hard not to start cleaning something sometimes!
Problem now is that it shows up the other 3 : )

I will try out the Bilt Hamber I think so, I presume these will be ok to use before using Meguairs wash and wax? I have quite a big bottle of that so want to use that up before purchasing some more. What would be a good wash product to get when the meguairs runs out?

Time to buy a drying towel also, going to go for the Dry me crazy one.

I dont mind the cold - as long as the water you are washing car with is warm, but you can forget about polishing etc.
