His statement shows a belief that it is 'just good business' for companies to use their power to bully ordinary workers into accepting bad jobs by threatening them with no jobs at all.

He is an unabashed plutocrat who has successfully conned American workers into believing that he wants to help them.

Was reading how he made his fortune.

In a nutshell, he got his organisation leveraged up to the eyeballs to the tune of $9 billion, of which he owed $1 billion personally. It was a classic case of 'when you owe the bank 1,000 euro, it's your problem, when you owe them a million, it's their problem. It's here that he established his reputation as a deal maker. The banks (70 of them) understood that foreclosing would cost them millions and millions.

So they agreed to an interest free 5 year period along with another 65 million working capital to stay afloat. He never had to pay anything on the principal of the loans. He was essentially bailed out by the banks. He has obviously subsumed this into his being a tough negotiator whereas the reality was that he was well heeled from his family and experienced a bull market for brains in the 1980's property boom, as they say, you find out who has been swimming naked when the tide goes out. It obviously takes some brass to negotiate the above deal with the banks but he could have just as easily been bankrupted into oblivion as well.

He has taken this persona, a kind of bizarre caricature of his WWF days, and found fame with it and has leveraged this fame and posited himself as a voice of the people. In wrestling parlance, he would be a 'face' for the forgotten and a 'heel' to the bureaucrats in DC. It worked. Spectacularly. To see Trump as some genius business man is short sighted, to see him as a sociopathic risk taker willing to flirt with oblivion with other people's money is more accurate.

The issue is that people have to seek reelection and if they haven't looked after their patch then they lose their seat.
Also another issue is that politicians for the most part do not want to think long term because it doesn't help them get reelected.

He has played the qualifiers (done the election) and actually won against all the odds.
