I thought Ferns was being done as part of the enniscorthy bypass - maybe I'm wrong.

A cab driver in town was telling me there were 3 trucks waiting in Bunclody for an escort into town, they had huge structural parts for the works, I didn't see it myself.

Saw one in the wee small hours of last Sunday morning I think going the wrong way across the bridge in Enniscorthy.

The road at Solsborogh is now closed until February.They must be starting to build the embankments and some of the supports for the new bridge over the Slaney. I'll get some pics when there's some progress.

I won't say it's gospel but the word from Bam is once the Bypass is done they will be pushing on to complete the motorway the whole way to Rosslare.

How far do they think they'll get before someone notices? Ferrycarrig?, The Whitford roundabout?

GAMA made similar comments/hints about the Sarsfield/Bandon interchanges when doing the N28 work in the early 2000s. Decisions to spend money elsewhere and the staffing scandal put paid to that, and them getting any more contracts.

Desires vs what you can do are often very different!

There needs to be detailed plan etc in place that takes years to prepare. They can't just build a road. At least 10-20 years away I'd say given the more pressing needs elsewhere. Wexford town has a decent bypass from about 1990 and the rest of the N11 is adequate for now.

Truely bizzare they couldn't get past Oylgate,even if they were planning to extend it. The extra traffic will create a bottleneck and a nightmare for the inhabitants.

It avoids the extra expense of having to build another bridge at Ferrycarrig.

Motorways always generate extra traffic. Particularly the coast road that people would take to avoid Enniscorthy.

The route has been decided on. There were a number of different routes from North of Oylegate to Rosslare, and these were considered AFTER the route from Gorey to North of Oylegate was decided.

Here were the routes under consideration

And here is the preferred corridor - it is 300 meter wide and exact route would be decided after design.

Aother poster mentioned continuing on to the bridge at Ferrycarrig. The road/motorway have to continue on to the junction with the N25 (New Ross Road)

I'd imagine the Oilgate bypass could be done as an add-on to the existing contract, probably not the whole section to Rosslare though as it would require a new tender.

Have roads ever been moved from a "preferred route" i.e. Is the preferred route the route it'll be within the 300 metres come hell or high water or has it ever been a case where they've decided to go with one of the other route options?

Route selection, EIS, planning, CPO and tender would have to be done. It can't be added on to this contract. This section of the M11 would probably be open before ABP even ruled on any proposed Oilgate bypass.
