Dairy Chit Chat- Please read Mod note in post #1

Recently we saw three posters close their accounts over disagreements in the dairy threads. While there is a lot of frustration and discontent with current milk prices and the processing industry, the recent tendency for dairy threads to become tit-for-tat arguments isn’t tolerable for those not involved.

All farming sectors go through difficult periods and during such times there may need to be changes in how threads are moderated.

Dairy threads are going to be more closely monitored and subject to stricter moderation for a while.

To that end we won’t tolerate baiting of posters, constantly reviving old arguments, posters with agendas or crusading for a cause.

Whether it’s discussion of the business or politics of the dairy or other sectors, we expect civility and tolerance toward each other and other opinions as diversity of opinion is needed as a source of different ways of looking at a situation.

Also please be aware that what you may post as light-hearted banter can be read totally differently by someone adversely affected by the subject matter and evoke a reaction you hadn’t intended.

Got nuts delivered here this evening that where part of fixed price glanbia feed scheme, ingredient spec was ment to be maize/wheat/high pro soya/beet pulp and hulls, was fit to choke someone when I looked at delivery docket barley/palm kernal/malt sprouts/whey premate/maize gluten/rapeseed where what nut contained ..
I hope the pricks have a way to get the load back out of the bin cause I won't be feeding the above crap to the milkers here our forking out 280 a ton for it either

Malt sprouts are basically floor sweeping. And whey permeate used to be land spread at one stage .

You'd buy an ok 21% but for 280 now.

I'm giving 265 blown in for a nut. Five ingredients.

Barely soya bean maize soya hulls and distillers.

Have no dealings with them for nuts based on the above, was feeding a 5 way mix 16% nut here maize hi pro soya maize gluten beet pulp and soya hulls for 255 blown in, the worst thing is I warned the feed rep not to land us out a load of ****e and that maize and soya needed to be in the nut, the sheer incompetence of it all is the worst part of it but I guess they get away with it 99% of the time so are playing the numbers game

Impossible crowd to deal with . They seem to make a lot of "mistakes " . Accidentally on purpose

Funny thing is I said to rep depending on how I got on with nuts I might throw him a good bit of business next year would be feeding 100 plus tons a year and the brain box still goes out of his way to land us with a load of crap, I'd reckon they where easily clearing 80 euro a ton profit on the nut they delivered

I was one who laid into him re pm .yes it's a decent exercise but it's missing too much cruical info to give an accurate state of play on a dairy farm

You could also take into account debt repayment .really irks me reading some of his articles with cop missing above making it look like some farms can produce milk in high teens /low 20s .its simply not possible and ****e like that shouldn't be allowed go to print pm should only ever be used beteween farmer ,advisor and within disc group .for any articles going to print or open days a standard land and labour charge should be costed in .this crap about Ireland been a low cost producer of milk is just that

What % protein where they to be. 280/tonne is crazy . Might be an idea to get a sample analysed to see how different they are than what you ordered

18% 280 was the locked in price for fixed price scheme, they'll be taking them back, have a spout on bin so it's easily emptied, going straight into them this morning to get it sorted

Got quoted 275 for 21 % ration. Nut is 15 euro a tonne more. That includes bicarb and yeasac

Did you actually order the spec you listed above and they delivered the other stuff? Any chance it was just a mistake? Get our own mixes made up in coop here and in fairness we've gotten what was specified. Your right to get it taken away either way if it wasn't the stuff you ordered

Yeasac and bicarb are adding 15-20 euro per tonne.

There are plenty of lads that dont know the price of the feed until the bill comes never mind the ingredients. There are also people who stick with the same feed company forever

Yes ordered stuff listed above, rep admitted he was at fault apparently can't be taken back out so got him to knock a 100 a ton of price, may just feed a bit extra to make up for crap ingrediants

Just paid 245 for a high spec 16%. Had been quoted 265e from another mill! I'm opening the maize in afew days, what amount of nuts should I still feed? All spring milkers, still doing 16l, most will still be milking until mid Dec, however I want to improve condition rather than drive milk the next 6wks. Silage is 13%p. Stick to the 2kg 16%, or up the protein in the nuts when the cows full time inside?

Barley 18% distillers 18% maize gluten 15% soya bean meal 14% maize 13% then molasses ,beans and soya hulls make up the rest of it

Any p% on maize.? normal around 9% so depending on how much you feed with silage could do with extra protein. overall diet is 15/16% p condition should be fine. You could feed a bit of soya to up the protein with current load if possible? As they are all spring cows 2 to 3 kgs of a high p nut should be ok. Could be talking 24% to help balance the maize if feeding soya is awkward

Sounds right. The two big lime seller around here are €22 and €23 spread.(regardless of how much you're getting),

Draw ourselves here and for spreading and lime it works out at 13.50 a ton, if distance from quarry is less then 20 miles sub 20 euro would be the going rate if 30 plus miles from pit 22.50 would be around right
